The purpose of this article is to identify the role start-ups play in the open innovation (OI) context by reviewing the existing body of research. Since the OI literature on young ventures is nascent, a stepwise review approach is applied, using the already more evolved findings of small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in order to derive similarities or differences. The findings indicate that if empirical studies with a similar research focus are conducted, similar results are likely to be obtained in both SMEs and young ventures. Generally, young ventures have a higher application of OI activities compared to large firms as it boosts their innovation performance enabling them to overcome the liability of smallness and newness. Because of this importance, combined with the limited number of quantitative studies available, ongoing research is required to further understand young ventures role in the OI context.

Young symmetrizers are primitive idempotents in the group algebra of the symmetric group ~(Sn) that are indexed in a natural way by Young tableaux. Although the Young symmetrizers corresponding to standard tableaux may be used to decompose the group algebra into a direct sum of minimal left ideals, they are not pairwise orthogonal in general. We pose the problem of finding maximum sets of pairwise orthogonal (but not necessarily standard) Young symmetrizers, and show in particular that it is possible to find (nonstandard) complete orthogonal sets for all partitions of n if and only if n≤6.

BACKGROUND.: Young adult renal transplant recipients may display patterns of behavior that affect graft survival. The present study aimed to identify young adults at risk for nonadherent behavior by investigating their attitudes about posttransplant health lifestyle. METHOD.: A Q-methodological study was conducted. Participants were asked to rank-order statements on issues potentially associated with (non)adherence. Factor analysis was applied to uncover patterns in the ranking of statements. The resulting factors represent attitudes and are described using a composite ranking of the statements. As a first test of discriminated validity, a different group of 34 young renal transplant patients was asked how well the factor descriptions fitted them. RESULTS.: Twenty-six young renal transplant recipients (18-25 years) participated in the study. They were remarkably willing to discuss sensitive issues when confronted with statements on cards. Four distinct attitude profiles concerning posttransplant healthlifestyle were found among these young adults: (a) concerned and controlled, (b) appearance orientated, (c) opinionated and independent, and (d) easy going and pliable. In a follow-up analysis, self-categorization proved to discriminate well between the four attitude profiles in 67% of the respondents. CONCLUSIONS.: Using Q-methodology, four attitude profiles about posttransplant health lifestyle were uncovered. Self-categorization on these attitudes seems feasible and may be a useful screening aid to identify young adults at risk for nonadherence.

Introduction: Colon carcinoma is rare in patients under 40 years but incidence is increasing. Results regarding outcome of this age group have been controversial and difficult to interpret. Some authors have reported a worse prognosis related to advanced stage at diagnosis and cancer-aggressive behavior. We tried to assess whether sporadic colon carcinoma in young patients is a distinct disease with different etiology and how this reflects on outcome. Methods: Most relevant papers published and indexed on PubMed in the last 20 years were reviewed. Epidemiological data were retrieved from the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results database and discussed. Discussion: Stage-specific analyses adjusted for age have demonstrated that prognosis is related to tumor stage regardless of age. Advanced stage is partly due to tumor biology and to delayed diagnosis. Younger patients show a better performance status that allows aggressive multimodal treatment. Conclusion: Colon carcinoma in young adults appears to be a distinct disease characterized by biological aggressiveness, but prognosis is not worse due to a better performance status at time of surgical intervention.

The present paper looks at the growing problem of social media amongst the young clergy in India. Social media usage while potentially benefitting from a religious perspective may also serve as a distraction to young clergy from their religious duties and this may lead many of them spending large amounts of time on social media. The article outlines the need to restrict social media use in young clergy and delineates the ethical aspects of the same.

We estimated prevalence and odds ratios for self-reported HIV testing among sexually experienced young adults using nationally representative data obtained from Wave III of the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health (Add Health). The prevalence of testing in the past year was 18.8%.Young adults who had private or no health insurance were less likely to report testing than were young adults who had public health insurance, particularly in the South. Respondents with functional income were less likely to report testing than were those without functional income, particularly in the South and Northeast. Variable HIV testing based on finances and insurance should be addressed.

In this paper, we present the results of a computer investigation of asymptotics for maximum dimensions of linear and projective representations of the symmetric group. This problem reduces the investigation of standard and strict Young diagrams of maximum dimensions. We constructed some sequences for both standard and strict Young diagrams with extremely large dimensions. The conjecture that the limit of normalized dimensions exists was proposed by Vershik 30 years ago [A. M. Vershit and S. V. Kerov, Funktsional Anal. i Prilozhen 19(1) (1985) 25-36] and has not been proved yet. We studied the growth and oscillations of the normalized dimension function in sequences of Young diagrams. Our approach is based on analyzing finite differences of their normalized dimensions. This analysis also allows us to give much more precise estimation of the limit constants.

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY. To examine the effect of the transition to adulthood on financial and nonfinancial barriers to care in youths with asthma.STUDY POPULATION. Studied were adolescents and young adults with asthma. Public-use data from the National Health Interview Survey conducted by the National Center for Health Statistics were analyzed. Data from the years 2000-2005 were pooled to provide a sample of 26 597 adolescents (12-17 years) and 19998 young adults (18-124 years).

A recent survey has revealed a large number of young children in institutional care across Europe. Young children placed in institutional care without parents may be at risk of harm. This review considers systematically the research evidence on the impact of institutional care on brain growth, attachment, social behavior, and cognitive development. Analytical epidemiological study designs (i.e., including a control/comparison group) show that young children placed in institutional care are at risk of harm in terms of attachment disorder and developmental delays in social, behavioral, and cognitive domains. Delays in physical growth, neural atrophy, and abnormal brain development have also been implicated. The findings suggest that the lack of a one-to-one relationship with a primary caregiver is a major cause of harm to children in residential care. Evidence indicates that infants who are placed in institutional care will suffer harm to their development if they are not moved to family-based care by the age of 6 months. The neglect and damage caused by early privation and deprivation is equivalent to violence and policy makers should work to ensure that every child has the opportunity to grow up in a family environment.
