<i>Ascotis imparata</i> Walker is an important defoliator of sal belongs to the order Lepidoptera and family Geometridae. It is widely distributed in various parts of the Northern, Central and Southern India. The insect species is polyphagous pest and defoliates large number of forestry species of economic importance mainly sal, <i>Shorea robusta</i>. The reported host plants are twenty-five, which also includes some agricultural crops. Seasonal abundance studies were conducted for three years (1999-2002) in the field. The infested forest of sal was surveyed and data on pupal population was collected every month during the period from April 1999 to March 2002. The population was found in its peak during July while it was at lowest level during the month of February-March.
