We present new measurements of cosmic infrared background (CIB) anisotropies using Planck. Combining HFI data with IRAS, the angular auto- and cross-frequency power spectrum is measured from 143 to 3000??GHz, and the auto-bispectrum from 217 to 545??GHz. The total areas used to compute the CIB power spectrum and bispectrum are about 2240 and 4400 deg2, respectively. After careful removal of the contaminants (cosmic microwave background anisotropies, Galactic dust, and Sunyaev-Zeldovich emission), and a complete study of systematics, the CIB power spectrum is measured with unprecedented signal to noise ratio from angular multipoles ? ~ 150 to 2500. The bispectrum due to the clustering of dusty, star-forming galaxies is measured from ? ~ 130 to 1100, with a total signal to noise ratio of around 6, 19, and 29 at 217, 353, and 545??GHz, respectively. Two approaches are developed for modelling CIB power spectrum anisotropies. The first approach takes advantage of the unique measurements by Planck at large angular scales, and models only the linear part of the power spectrum, with a mean bias of dark matter haloes hosting dusty galaxies at a given redshift weighted by their contribution to the emissivities. The second approach is based on a model that associates star-forming galaxies with dark matter haloes and their subhaloes, using a parametrized relation between the dust-processed infrared luminosity and (sub-)halo mass. The two approaches simultaneously fit all auto- and cross-power spectra very well. We find that the star formation history is well constrained up to redshifts around 2, and agrees with recent estimates of the obscured star-formation density using Spitzer and Herschel. However, at higher redshift, the accuracy of the star formation history measurement is strongly degraded by the uncertainty in the spectral energy distribution of CIB galaxies. We also find that the mean halo mass which is most efficient at hosting star formation is log (Meff/M⊙) = 12.6 and that CIB galaxies have warmer temperatures as redshift increases. The CIB bispectrum is steeper than that expected from the power spectrum, although well fitted by a power law; this gives some information about the contribution of massive haloes to the CIB bispectrum. Finally, we show that the same halo occupation distribution can fit all power spectra simultaneously. The precise measurements enabled by Planck pose new challenges for the modelling of CIB anisotropies, indicating the power of using CIB anisotropies to understand the process of galaxy formation.

Nano-drug delivery systems (Nano-DDS) offer powerful advantages in drug delivery and targeted therapy for diseases. Compared to the traditional drug formulations, Nano-DDS can increase solubility, biocompatibility, and reduce off-targeted side effects of free drugs. However, they still have some disadvantages that pose a limitation in reaching their full potential in clinical use. Protein adsorption in blood, activation of the complement system, and subsequent sequestration by the mononuclear phagocyte system (MPS) consequently result in nanoparticles (NPs) to be rapidly cleared from circulation. Therefore, NPs have low drug delivery efficiency. So, it is important to develop stealth NPs for reducing bio–nano interaction. In this review, we first conclude the interaction between NPs and biological environments, such as blood proteins and MPS, and factors influencing each other. Next, we will summarize the new strategies to reduce NPs protein adsorption and uptake by the MPS based on current knowledge of the bio–nano interaction. Further directions will also be highlighted for the development of biomimetic stealth nano-delivery systems by combining targeted strategies for a better therapeutic effect.

A metal-free catalytic method for the synthesis of 2-deoxy glycosides and disaccharides has been developed using stable 2-deoxy glucosyl and galactosyl acetate donors. They could react with a variety of acceptors in the presence of catalytic amount of TMSOTf at 0癈 to form glycosides, glycoconjugates, and disaccharides with excellent ?selectivity (> 19:1) and yields (up to 99%) in a short time (0.5 h). With this expedient method, several new compounds against human K562 and SMMC7721 cell lines were obtained and tested with in vitro antitumor bioactivities.

Obesity and associated comorbidities are a major health burden, and novel therapeutics to help treat obesity are urgently needed. There is increasing evidence that targeting the amylin receptors (AMYRs), heterodimers of the calcitonin G protein–coupled receptor (CTR) and receptor activity-modifying proteins, improves weight control and has the potential to act additively with other treatments such as glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists. Recent data indicate that AMYR agonists, which can also independently activate the CTR, may have improved efficacy for treating obesity, even though selective activation of CTRs is not efficacious. AM833 (cagrilintide) is a novel lipidated amylin analog that is undergoing clinical trials as a nonselective AMYR and CTR agonist. In the current study, we have investigated the pharmacology of AM833 across 25 endpoints and compared this peptide with AMYR selective and nonselective lipidated analogs (AM1213 and AM1784), and the clinically used peptide agonists pramlintide (AMYR selective) and salmon CT (nonselective). We also profiled human CT and rat amylin as prototypical selective agonists of CTR and AMYRs, respectively. Our results demonstrate that AM833 has a unique pharmacological profile across diverse measures of receptor binding, activation, and regulation. SIGNIFICANCE STATEMENT AM833 is a novel nonselective agonist of calcitonin family receptors that has demonstrated efficacy for the treatment of obesity in phase 2 clinical trials. This study demonstrates that AM833 has a unique pharmacological profile across diverse measures of receptor binding, activation, and regulation when compared with other selective and nonselective calcitonin receptor and amylin receptor agonists. The present data provide mechanistic insight into the actions of AM833. Copyright ? 2021 by The Author(s).

AP@LZ is an electronic organiser that was designed to support the day-to-day activities of persons with Alzheimer's disease. To assess the potential of this technology, three participants (NI, JB, RD) were approached to take part in the study. They benefited from a structured cognitive intervention to learn how to operate AP@LZ; the intervention included the following learning stages: Acquisition, Application and Adaptation. Pre- and post-intervention measures were collected. NI, for whom a longitudinal study was conducted, still continued to use AP@LZ 24 months post-intervention. JB and RD also showed a gradual improvement in their performance throughout the intervention phase (sessions 1 to 19 for JB: performance increased from 50 to 100%; sessions 1 to 25 for RD: from 56 to 89%). The results of the use of AP@LZ in activities of daily living suggest that the application was beneficial for three persons with Alzheimer's disease whose profiles differed notably (age, cognitive and social profiles). Thus, results indicate that they were all able to learn how to operate AP@LZ's functions and to use them in their activities of daily living. Cognitive intervention appears to play an important role for the promotion of learning and adoption of such technology.

The innate immune system serves as the first line of defense to protect the host from pathogen infection. As a first step, the pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) recognize pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs), such as non-self DNA derived from pathogens, and damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs), such as self DNA released from damaged or injured cells. Sensing of such DNAs elicits innate immune responses through the production of type I interferons (IFNs) and proinflammatory cytokines resulting from the activation of interferon regulatory factor 3 (IRF3) and nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB), respectively. These cytokines are key players in interlinking innate and adaptive immune responses. However, defects in DNA sensors and their signaling cascades lead to dysregulation of immune responses, autoimmune diseases, and cancer progression. Here we provide an update on DNA signaling pathways in response to pathogen infection and cell injury, and on the roles of regulators in governing the immune system and maintaining host homeostasis. We also discuss the evasion of immunosurveillance by pathogens. ? 2018 Begell House, Inc.

Tris-bipyridine ferrous complexes having β-lactosides, β-maltosides or α-mannosides with serinol spacers were prepared as molecular mimics of densely packed carbohydrate clusters on cell surfaces. Conformational analysis on these glycosylated complexes were conducted by UV–vis and circular dichroism spectroscopy measurements, which disclosed that the chloride, nitrate and sulfate salts induced the conformational changes of the glycosylated complexes in the anion- and carbohydrate-dependent manners. ? 2019, ? 2019 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
