CdSe colloidal nanocrystals with a size of 5 nm were selectively incorporated in SiO2 nanopatterns formed by a self-assembled diblock copolymer patterning through a simple dip-coating process. The selective incorporation was achieved by capillary force, which drives the nanocrystals into the patterns during solvent evaporation in dip-coating. The capacitor structures of an Al-gate/ atomic layer deposition–Al2O3 27 nm/CdSe 5 nm/patterned SiO2 25 nm/p-Si substrate were fabricated to characterize the charging/discharging behavior for a memory device. The flatband voltage shift was observed by a charge transport between the gate and the nanocrystals. It demonstrates the colloidal nanocrystal application to a memory device through selective incorporation in regularly ordered nanopatterns by a simple dip-coating process

Large numbers of earthquakes occur in subduction zones that are marked by dipping, narrow high seismic velocity slabs. The existence of these fast velocity slabs can cause serious earthquake mislocation problems that can bias estimates of seismic travel time residuals. This can affect the recovery of subducting slabs in tomography as well as introduce significant artifacts into lower mantle structure in tomography models. In order to better account for known subducting slabs, we performed a new P and S wave joint tomography inversion incorporating a three-dimensional thermal model of subducting slabs in the starting model. In addition, velocity and source locations were inverted for simultaneously. Our new P and S models feature higher-amplitude subducting slabs compared with previous global tomography results. The S to P heterogeneity ratio based on the new tomography model indicates that thermal elastic effects alone cannot explain all the heterogeneities in the lower mantle. Much of the observed abnormal S to P heterogeneity ratio can be explained by anelastic effects, the spin transition, and phase transitions of bridgmanite to post-perovskite in the lower mantle.

The bonding configuration and structural evolution of Si and Ge incorporated amorphous carbon (a-C:Si_x and a-C:Ge_x) films were studied. The incorporation of Si and Ge to amorphous carbon (a-C) has the advantageous effect of promoting sp~3 hybridized bond formation due to smaller energy difference between s and p orbital in Si and Ge than C. The C 1s NEXAFS spectra of Si or Ge incorporated a-C films, the formation of Si (or Ge)-C bond is observed, i.e., the formation of a-SiC or a-GeC networks by the incorporation of Si (or Ge) in sp~2 hybridized site and bonding with carbon atoms to generate sp~3 hybridization. The important role of the incorporated Si and Ge in modifying the bonding configuration of a-C is revealed by using UV Raman spectroscopy to open up the ring structure of sp~2 hybridized bonded C atoms and formation of sp~3 hybridized bond with high efficiency.

Growth rates of microbial assemblages are com- monly estimated from data on biomass or cell abundance and rates of biomass or cell production. There are 2 algorithms for calculating growth rates from these data. One is to extrapo- late from the measured standing stock(B_0)to another stand- ing stock level using the measured production rate. The growth rate is then calculated as 1n[(PT + B_0)/B_0]/T rate. The the production rate and T is a specific time interval which is 1 d when the growth rate is expressed with units of d~-1. I argue here that this algorithm is conceptually incorrect and can underestimate the actual growth rate.

DNA polymerase 渭 (Pol渭), an X-family DNA polymerase, is preferentially expressed in secondary lymphoid tissues with yet unknown physiological functions. In this study, Pol渭 was overexpressed in Escherichia coli and purified to homogeneity. The purified enzyme had a lifetime of <20 min at 37 degrees C, but was stable for over 3 h at 25 degrees C in an optimized reaction buffer. The fidelity of human Pol渭 was thus determined using pre-steady-state kinetic analysis of the incorporation of single nucleotides into undamaged DNA 21/41-mer substrates at 25 degrees C. Single-turnover saturation kinetics for all 16 possible deoxynucleotide (dNTP) incorporations and for four matched ribonucleotide (rNTP) incorporations were measured under conditions where Pol渭 was in molar excess over DNA. The polymerization rate (k(p)), binding affinity (K(d)), and substrate specificity (k(p)/K(d)) are 0.006-0.076 s(-)(1), 0.35-1.8 渭M, and (8-64) x10(-)(3) 渭M(-)(1) s(-)(1), respectively, for matched incoming dNTPs, (2-30) x 10(-)(5) s(-)(1), 7.3-135 渭M, and (4-61) x 10(-)(7) 渭M(-)(1) s(-)(1), respectively, for mismatched incoming dNTPs, and (2-73) x 10(-)(4) s(-)(1), 45-302 渭M, and (7-1300) x 10(-)(7) 渭M(-)(1) s(-)(1), respectively, for matched incoming rNTPs. The overall fidelity of Pol渭 was estimated to be in the range of 10(-)(3)-10(-)(5) for both dNTP and rNTP incorporations and was sequence-independent. The sugar selectivity, defined as the substrate specificity ratio of a matched dNTP versus a matched rNTP, was measured to be in the range of 492-10959. In addition to a slow and distributive DNA polymerase activity, Pol渭 was identified to possess a weak strand-displacement activity. The potential biological roles of Pol渭 are discussed.

Generation Y, also called the Net Generation or Millennial refers a collaborator of the population larger than the Baby Boom generation. With approximately 80 million people born from mid-1980 to 2000, this group is the most recent generation to enter the workforce. Workplaces are being redefined and organizations are being pressed to adapt as this new wave of workers inspire into business environments. It is widely accepted that distinct generational experiences shape ethical ideologies and ethical ideologies in turn affect the way people function in the workplace. Age-based differences in perspective and complaints about other generations are certainly not a new phenomenon. Businesses committed to high ethics standards know how important it is to create a shared sense of values and a cohesive culture rooted in integrity, where organizational values and personal values align. Shaped by significant events, societal trends, and the cultures of their organizations, each generation develops its own unique perspective of what constitutes right and wrong behavior on the job. Correspondingly, Gen Y’s unique collaboration experiences are likely to shape their ethical ideologies and consequent workplace judgments and actions. In this study, we examine Gen Y’s ethical ideology and its reflections on strategic management essentials. This group of people is an important part of the workforce since they are the near future managers of the business life. The purpose of the research is to better understand the impacts of Generation Y’s ethical ideology and how this ideology reflects to their practice in business. In order to analyze their ethics view, qualitative approach is held. Interviews with individuals whom are to be considered as employees from Gen Y are conducted to identify ethical attitudes and behaviors. Especially, the changing ethics view on corporate business life and the effects on strategic management are focused in this research. The research will try to explore how ethical ideology has changed conditionally with the changing generation behaviors. The interviews are held with 8 employees. The interviews are transcribed into data which are analyzed by the researches to identify the findings. Qualitative approach is advantageous since it helps to gain detailed feedback about feelings, attitudes and behavior. The research will contribute to the literature by considering the impact of varying ethics view for Generation Y and how it reflects to the business life environment in today’s global world.

Using a laser profile microscope, we have investigated the internal structures of porous Ni-P electrodeposits grown under fixed current densities to find some properties that characterize the structure of the electrodeposits. The statistical analysis of the digitized microscope images reveals that the porous Ni-P deposits distribute according to a Poisson distribution and have values of the fractal dimension and scaling exponent different from those of the diffusion-limited aggregation model. Another result is that the number of ions at the cathode electrode oscillates at a fundamental frequency, which fact is interpreted by the presence of an oscillatory solution of the electrochemical rate equations in the Ni-P-H system using linearized perturbation equations. In this article, we analyze the role of local jurisdictions in regulating United States immigration, focusing on local policy responses to unauthorized migration in Montgomery County, Maryland. Important theoretical questions involve the conditions under which local policy responses, and their bureaucratic implementation, are inclusive or exclusive. Our findings indicate that perceptions of public safety are decisive. Consistent with other research on bureaucratic incorporation, our analysis indicates that bureaucratic practice can precede formal policy-making. Yet, this dynamic is not inherently inclusive, and can instead lead to exclusionary measures in order to protect against perceived threats to public safety.

“The present disclosure generally relates to systems and methods for processing a glass ribbon. More
particularly, it relates to systems and methods for handling a glass ribbon as part of the manufacture of
thin glass sheets from a moving glass ribbon.
“Technical Background
“Production of glass sheets typically involves producing a glass ribbon from a molten glass material, and
then cutting or separating individual glass sheets from the glass ribbon. Various techniques are known for
producing the glass ribbon. For example, with a down-draw process (e.g., fusion draw process), the ribbon
is drawn downward, typically from a forming body. Other glass making processes include, for example,
float, up-draw, slot-style and Fourcault’s-style processes. In yet other examples, the glass ribbon can be
temporarily stored in roll form, and later unwound for subsequent cutting or separation of individual glass
sheets.
