Interestingly the highest impact comes from the religious holidays since majority of residents travel for religious reasons. The most affected business sectors are healthcare and especially private clinics, manufacturing, services such as computer services, and consultancy services. ObjectiveCOVID-19 in the US disproportionately affected, and continues to affect, racial/ethnic minorities. Although risky social gatherings for Thanksgiving and Christmas in 2020 contributed substantially to the “winter surge” in cases and deaths, no research examines potential racial/ethnic differences in behaviors related to holiday gatherings.DesignWe used the Understanding America Survey (UAS) - Coronavirus Tracking, a nationally representative study of US adults, to examine associations between race/ethnicity and risky holiday gathering behavior (i.e., gathering with non-household members and with little to no social distancing or mask-wearing). We applied logistic regression models to examine racial/ethnic and socioeconomic differences in risky holiday gatherings while accounting for a person’s pre-holiday perception of COVID-19 risk as well as related behaviors.ResultsNon-Hispanic Black adults showed a lower prevalence of attending a risky Thanksgiving gathering than did non-Hispanic White adults (15?% vs 43?%, p?<.001). The magnitude of this racial/ethnic difference was also found for risky Christmas gatherings. Hispanic and “Other” race/ethnicity adults also appeared less likely than non-Hispanic whites to attend a risky holiday gathering. Higher-income households attended a risky holiday gathering more frequently, when compared with lower income households (p?<.001). Logistic regression results, which controlled for other COVID-19 related behaviors, support these main findings.ConclusionsRacial/ethnic minorities, and non-Hispanic Black adults in particular, appeared least likely to have engaged in risky holiday gatherings in late 2020. If replicated, our findings appear consistent with the notion that behavioral modification among racial/ethnic minorities may have reduced the intensity of the 2020/21 “winter surge” in COVID-19.

Nutritional education is a recent, mandatory inclusion within the quality standards framework for the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme in England; funded by the Department for Education (DfE). Whilst research has been conducted regarding nutritional education in other contexts, such as schools and community organisations, to the authors’ knowledge, no published research has yet explored nutritional education within HAF. The current study therefore aimed to explore the implementation, delivery, and perceived facilitators, barriers and impacts of nutritional education across a number of Local Authorities delivering HAF in England. Purposive sampling (n = 11) was used to recruit HAF leads involved in nutritional education, to participate in semi-structured interviews. Thematic analysis showed that nutritional education is currently delivered through a variety of modes including face-to-face, online, and take-home methods, all of which require a range of considerations in terms of implementation, delivery, and associated impacts, with some holiday clubs offering no nutritional education. According to participating HAF leads, nutritional education was used as a mechanism to enhance children’s and parents’ cooking confidence and competence, to improve dietary intake, and to increase understanding of issues such as food sustainability, environmental impacts, and food provenance. Although there are many examples of innovative practice, the findings suggested that COVID guidelines proved challenging for providers to include nutritional education within HAF delivery during 2021. Further, whilst the quality standards framework for nutritional education provides flexibility in terms of implementation and delivery, specific guidance, and monitoring of provision is required to ensure quality assurance and consistency across the HAF programme.

Fast developments aiming tourism on the coasts in the previous century have brought together some important problems such as nature’s destruction, and unique natural sources are vanishing. As a result of these developments, some principles have been determined in order to compose designs sensitive to nature in the tourism-aiming foundations such as hotel, resort hotel and holiday village founded on the coasts. In the research, firstly, Ulusoy holiday village has been examined in the light of holiday village planning principles and suggestions for the solutions of some mistakes present in the design have been made. Secondly, it has been aimed that principles necessary to be taken into consideration in a holiday village planning, in which traditional culture is reflected, should be determined. As a result, it has been determined that the design of this holiday village as one reflecting traditional culture is successful. However, its recreation activities are insufficient according to public survey results and to planning and design principles of holiday villages. In order to make up for this deficiency, suggestions to the present places have been brought.

In response to the problem of holiday hunger, hundreds of local "holiday clubs" have recently been established across the UK. This research examines the spatial relationship between income, childhood deprivation, ethnicity and holiday clubs across 32,844 Lower Super Output Areas (LSOAs) in England to determine if these clubs are currently operating in an inclusive fashion. Data on the location of holiday clubs comes from a national survey. Binary logistic regression results suggest that holiday clubs are likely to operate in economically disadvantaged areas. At the same time, clubs are not distributed equally by ethnicity. That is, holiday clubs operated by voluntary organisations are more likely to be situated in LSOAs that are disproportionately white and English\British and less likely to be situated in LSOAs that are disproportionately ethnic minority. This finding has important implications for the pursuit of holiday clubs as a policy mechanism for addressing access to food in light of the state's failure to adequately feed all of the country's children.

While the overall survival of patients with castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) has been prolonged by enzalutamide, a considerable number of patients suffer from enzalutamide-induced nausea and fatigue. An 86-year-old male patient who started enzalutamide (160 mg) for CRPC treatment, experienced nausea and vomiting approximately 2 weeks after the start of treatment. Enzalutamide treatment was stopped for two weeks, then restarted enzalutamide at a half-dose (80 mg); the dose was then increased to 120 mg. He remained free from any adverse events and showed good CRPC control for 53 months. We herein report the case of a patient with enzalutamide-induced nausea and vomiting, whose symptoms were overcome and in whom long-term CRPC control was achieved following a temporary drug holiday.

Large, randomized, controlled trials have demonstrated the efficacy of bisphosphonates (BP) in terms of improving bone mineral density (BMD) and reducing fracture risk. Consequently, bisphosphonates are used widely in the treatment of osteoporosis. Recently, however, several safety issues regarding the long-term use of BP, especially BP-related osteonecrosis of the jaws and atypical fractures, have been noted and have emerged as a limitation of their clinical use. Although the absolute risk is very small, the risks could increase with the long-term use of BP. The anti-fracture efficacy of BP is not sustained after treatment for 5-10 years. Therefore, recommendations suggest that a drug holiday be considered after 5 years of treatment for patients at low risk of fracture. However, as the individual fracture risk varies, the treatment duration should be based on individual clinical risk factors and bone metabolism status. Moreover, recommendations regarding monitoring after discontinuing and reinitiating BP await further studies.

The aim of this study is to explore the attitude of the Mainland Chinese holidaymakers, their interest in the tourism and hospitality features of New Zealand, and the impact of socio-demographic variables on their travel motivation. The findings should assist the marketing strategies to promote tourism and hospitality product of New Zealand to the Mainland China. A survey questionnaire using Leisure Motivation Scale was designed originally in English, and then it was translated into Chinese Language (Mandarin) before being administered. The study was undertaken in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou-the top three Mainland Chinese cities with highest trend to travel abroad. The analysis involved descriptive statistics; independent sample t-test and ANOVA. The influence of five different demographic variables such as gender, educational level, income level, marital status and age are considered. Overall the study shows the significant features of the attitude of Chinese travellers and how demographic variables influence their attitude. The study explores sparsely researched specificities of influence of socio-demographic variables of Chinese holidaymakers in relation to tourism activities and features of New Zealand.

Preference for holiday places of Dutch residents is the fourth variant of place preference in this year’s series of The Netherlands in Maps. A significant variant, because in many or even most circumstances the freedom of choice for an individual person or family in case of seeking a destination for a shorter or longer holiday is rather large. Because the holiday location choice concerns a temporary residence, not a definitive one, it can be wider than in most cases of considering moving house or relocating one’s business, which were the choice preferences shown in two of the previous issues of this year’s map series (Pellenbarg & Van Steen 2013a, 2013b). For the same reason we may expect that preferences concerning holiday places are more easily turned abroad, and in that case, are also more easily translated from stated to revealed preferences. For the Netherlands, this expectation fits reality. No less than 50 per cent of all holidays of the Dutch are spent abroad, and for longer holidays (8 days or more) this is even 64 per cent. Germany is the most popular foreign destination (18% of all holidays abroad) followed by France (15%) (NBTC-NIPO 2013).
