Research on sustainable tourism mainly focuses on incoming tourism, and destination perspectives and impacts, and less on the focus of this paper - outgoing tourism. In this context, direct and personal access to tourism represents an equal right to all world citizens. Because this right has not been exercised equally, the world is divided into two parts, excess and deprived, tourism citizens and their nation-states. This paper proposes a more just tourism system to balance the rights of tourists to travel, with the right to development, equal tourism participation, and consumption of world resources. It draws on theories from Nozick and Rawls on rights and justice to ground our model, backed by the work of other writers including Hultsman, Higgins-Desbiolles, Jamal, and Camargo. It expands the definition of just tourism to activate tourism's potential to become a developmental force in the existing socio-economic global order. This potential is realised through the use of market-based economic instruments for the implementation of a just tourism system. It suggests how to create financial flows towards third world states for their development and modernisation, using the concept of tradable tourism certificates, a concept tested in emissions control, population, and land use planning.

In recent years, the potential of farm tourism to generate socioeconomic benefits for farmers and suppliers has been established in a range of international contexts. This study aims to identify the main socioeconomic benefits of farm tourism for farming communities in Iran on a national scale. In order to cover agricultural potentiality, nine provinces were selected. Factor analysis of the data extracted nine social and economic factors, which were then analysed using stepwise regression analysis. The findings indicate that the diversification of Iran's farms into tourism businesses would introduce a new social and economic growth stimulus for local communities. The stepwise regression findings were employed to identify which farm tourism factors are required for socioeconomic development in Iran. Factors were divided into nine categories of socioeconomic development: learning and educational activities improvements, cultural development, community participation, thriving local economy, pursuit of personal values, income generation, quality of life improvement, building business competitiveness and modifying migration structure. Among these categories, farmers/suppliers in farming communities have primarily concentrated on the pursuit of personal values and income generation.

This study assessed tourist satisfaction and its links with tourist attractions and infrastructure at the following six protected areas on the Northern Tourist Circuit of Tanzania: Tarangire National Park, Lake Manyara National Park, Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Serengeti National Park, Arusha National Park, and Mt. Kilimanjaro National Park. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 185 tourists visiting the protected areas. Satisfaction ratings for the Northern Circuit were high, with 86% of tourists willing to be repeat visitors. Tourists were attracted primarily to wildlife viewing. Although most tourists were not influenced to visit the region by indigenous culture or physical features, 81% of tourists noted that non-wildlife attractions enhanced their tourist experience. A range of ways to develop more sustainable forms of tourism emerged from the work, including lengthening stays, guide/driver capacity building, and partnership working with tour operators to improve marketing, increase satisfaction rates, and diversify the product.

The study contributes to raising the scientific background related to a place-based tourism's offer, within both the city itself and the Mediterranean basin's cities - as it is a unique multicultural macro-region - rich in social-cultural-historical heritage layers and well-known touristic places. The scope of this research is to highlight the values of the city’s layered urban morphology, as it is crucial to develop a place-based urban tourism offer within its urban context. This case study article discusses the history and development of the International Organisation of Social Tourism (ISTO) and its role in social tourism policy and provision today. It will examine the origins of the concept, how it developed in a historical context and how the organisation has responded to the challenges this has brought. The main milestones of the organisation will be contextualised: from the foundation of ISTO (then Bureau International du Tourisme Social, BITS which became ISTO in September 2010) in 1963, over the Montreal Declaration in 1996 to the Addendum of Aubagne in 2006. Although social tourism is historically mainly a European phenomenon, ISTO is a global organisation, and the article will therefore highlight examples of projects in other parts of the world. In conclusion, the article will review the most recent challenges that face social tourism today and propose avenues for the future as proposed by ISTO.

COVID-19 is widely recognised as a challenge or even a game-changer for travel and tourism. It has also been a catalyst to serious debate in the "tourism academy," as revealed by a discussion on TRINET Tourism Information Network via email in May 2020. The catalyst to this debate was an email by academic Jim Butcher announcing his work entitled "the war on tourism," published in an online magazine. Presenting a binary between industry recovery and reform, Butcher's article denounced a body of tourism work he portrayed as hostile to the industry and as using COVID-19 as an opportunity to attack it. He argued that this resulted in harm to tourism businesses, tourism workers and ordinary tourists. These TRINET discussions worked to present a binary in schools of thought, divided by being either for the tourism industry or against it. This analysis explains how advocates of industry rapid recovery stand opposed to wider efforts to reform tourism to be more ethical, responsible and sustainable. The struggle concerns both the proper role of tourism and tourism academics. Outcomes from this debate have repercussions for the development of the discipline, the education of tourism students and the future of tourism practices.
