Drawing from Huffcutt, Conway, Roth, and Stone's (2001) taxonomy of employmentinterview constructs, we hypothesized that asynchronous web-based video employment interviews would be associated with job performance and organizational tenure using a crowd-sourced sample of 75 employed professionals. We found that composite interview ratings and construct ratings of mental capability, knowledge and skills, applied social skills, and conscientiousness were significantiy related to self-rated job performance. We also found that construct ratings of knowledge and skills and applied social skills were significantly associated with self-reported organizational tenure. Implications for web-based video employment-interview research and practice are discussed.

This research includes survey data about the types of anxiety levels that college students experience while preparing for job interviews. Survey findings included female students reporting higher levels of anxiety than their male counterparts on four of the five scales. Results suggest that additional training for female applicants could reduce anxiety levels and help them excel in job interviews. Implications for job applicants, academic communities, and recruiters are discussed. The article concludes with study limitations and suggestions for future research.

In 1992, the police service of England and Wales adopted PEACE as a framework for
interviewing suspects. This study was to evaluate the impact of PEACE interview training,
workplace supervision and the presence of a legal advisor on the performance of police
officers’ interviewing suspects. One hundred seventy-four real-life interviews with suspects
were obtained from six police forces in England and Wales. Officers trained and untrained
in PEACE, and from police forces that did or did not have an interview supervision policy
conducted the interviews. Interviews in this sample were generally of average standard.
Whilst PEACE-trained officers conducted longer interviews, there were no other statistical
differences dependent on training. Nor were there any statistical differences dependent on
the presence of a legal advisor. A workplace supervision policy was found to be related to
performance, particularly during the engage and explain phases of the interview.
Supervision also appeared to provide some safeguards for suspects who did not have a
legal advisor. Because the performance of PEACE-trained officers did not differ from
those who had not received this training, further improvement in training is needed,
especially regarding a number of communication skills. It is argued that such
improvement would be facilitated by a more consistent approach to interviewer training
and to the effective supervision of interviews. Copyright # 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Skilled investigative interviewing is critical to ensuring that
credible witness accounts are gathered in criminal investigations.
The current study aimed to determine whether
instructions to avoid suggestive questions and pre-interview
knowledge influence both the quality of an interviewer's
questioning strategy and the interviewer's memory for the
witness' account after a 1-week delay in a laboratory study
using lay student interviewers and witnesses. Results indicated
that access to case details prior to the interview did
not significantly influence the type or quality of questions
asked within the interview itself but significantly influenced
interviewers' memories for their interview 1 week
later. Those who were blind to case information at the
time of the interview had more accurate memories of their
witness interviews than those who were correctly or incorrectly
pre-informed. Instructions to avoid suggestive questions
served to reduce suggestive questions, regardless of
pre-interview knowledge. Taken together, these findings
suggest that pre-interview preparation may influence investigative
outcomes beyond the interview context and traditional
measures of witness accuracy.

The interviewing practice of survey interviewers has long been recognized as an important contributor to measurement error in survey data. In the current article, we compare two approaches that can be used to identify interviewers whose task performance might be inadequate and damaging to data quality. The first approach assesses interviewing behavior through the use of audio-recorded interviews. Behavioral assessments capture actual behavior in an interview, but typically rely only on “slices” of observed behavior. The second approach is based on interview time paradata, a type of “trace” data that can easily be aggregated in summary measurements such as average interview speed at the interviewer level. In the current study, we use data from the Dutch-speaking subsample of interviewers employed in two survey rounds of the European Social Survey in Belgium to evaluate how successful the two above approaches are for predicting interviewers’ contributions to interviewer variance. The results show that interviewers who deviate from a larger number of standardized interviewing practices in one (early) audio-recorded interview, as well as those who tend to accelerate their interviewing speed over the course of an interview, tend to contribute more to interviewer variance. The two types of performance assessments appear to be independent, additive predictors of interviewers’ variance contributions. While statistically significant, the effects are nevertheless modest in size. The implication for practice is that interviewer monitoring would benefit from well-considered combinations of both behavioral and paradata-based assessments.

Every other year, when a new AMS president takes office, the Notices publishes interviews with the outgoing and incoming presidents. What follows is an edited version of an interview with Jill C. Pipher, whose two-year term as president began on February 1, 2019. Pipher is a professor of mathematics and vice president for research at Brown University, and was founding director of the Institute for Computational and Experimental Research in Mathematics (ICERM). The interview was conducted in fall 2018 by freelance writer Evelyn Lamb. An interview with Immediate Past President Kenneth A. Ribet appeared in the March 2019 issue of the Notices.

Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to examine the Cognitive Interview (CI) and its usefulness in improving recall among Arab children. Totally, 64 Arab children (9-12 years old) took part In this study; they viewed a short video scene followed by the Cl or a Structured Interview (control). Design/methodology/approach-Thestudy measured for recall of correct, incorrect, confabulated details and accuracy level. Using the interview type, delay type (2-4, 7-10 and 14-16 days) and age group (9-10 and 11-12 years) a MANCOVA test showed that the Cl group produced significantly more correct, incorrect and confabulated details compared to the control. Findings - Delay had a significant effect on recall of correct detail while the older group of children produced significantly more correct details, higher accuracy and fewer incorrect and confabulated details. Although the Cl is a potentially transferable method to be used with Arab children, careful consideration should be given to its difficulty along with cultural issues. Originality/value - This is the first study to consider Cl among Arab sample of children. Most research have looked at western cultures, hence this study was needed to extend knowledge and test if the Cl is transferable to a different culture.

The Enhanced Cognitive Interview is accepted as one of the most successful techniques for enhancing witness recollection. This type of interview has been studied all over the world (eg, Europe or the USA) and is used by police officers in many different countries (eg, the UK and New Zealand). Nonetheless, it is essential for police officers to understand how, and when, to properly apply this interview. Therefore, we examined the underlying psychological processes involved in this interview, and what research can tells us about the situations and purposes that can benefit from applying it.
