They have remained solid and profitable despite the recent challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic, rising energy prices following Russia's invasion of Ukraine and a spike in inflation and interest rates. Many of the leading firms active in the market are pan-European giants, and Belgian banks and insurers are themselves active in other EU countries.
