Goat farming plays an important role in the livelihood security and economic sustenance of large number of small, marginal and landless laborers in harsh climatic zones of Madhya Pradesh (MP), who do not have other means of survivals. It is particularly suitable for weaker section of household with small land base and abundant labor force. Despite the large size of the goat population, the productivity per unit of goat and the contribution of this sector to the State's economy is relatively low. This is due to several reasons such as prevalence of diseases, poor nutrition, lack of appropriate breed and breeding strategies, lack of extension services and poor knowledge of goat farming system as a whole.
