Till today, goat rearing is a traditional occupation of backward classes of people and predominantly reared under extensive range management on community range land employing self or family labor under low input and sustainable output of production management system. Despite the large size of the goat population, the productivity per unit of goat and the contribution of this sector to the State's economy is relatively low. This may be due to several reasons such as prevalence of diseases, poor nutrition, lack of appropriate breed and breeding strategies, lack of extension services and poor knowledge of goat farming system as a whole. However, there are many gaps in goat production that can be improved by appropriate extension interventions. On the basis of existing status and constraints perceived by goat owners suitable strategies of extension interventions were developed in the present study which were adopted in four selected villages of Jabalpur, in active consultation with the scientists. 收起
