Chromosomal karyotype aberrations are central to AML risk stratification; for example Core binding factor (CBF) AML, which represents approximately 13% of adult de novo AML (Mrozek et al, 2008), has a good prognosis with 60-70% long-term survival (Dohner & Gai-dzik, 2011). This group of AML is most commonly characterized by the presence of the translocation t(8;21)(q22;q22), or the inversion inv(16)(p13q22)/t(16;16)(p13q22), which result in the RUNX1-RUNXT1 and CBFB-MYH11 fusion proteins respectively (Muller et al, 2008). An important independent poor prognostic outcome factor in AML is mutation of the FMS-like tyrosine kinase 3 gene (FLT3), which is mutated in approximately 30% of AML cases (Weisberg et al, 2010). 收起
