Milk samples (individual and bulk milk samples from cows and buffaloes and market milk) were col... 展开 A systematic survey was conducted to assess the extent of contamination of aflatoxin M₁ (AFM₁) in milk samples. Milk samples (individual and bulk milk samples from cows and buffaloes and market milk) were collected from 17 towns in the Chattisgarh state. Samples of milk products were also collected from 13 different localities in the Chattisgarh state for analysis of AFM₁. Out of the 567 samples analysed, 412 were positive for AFM₁. The average concentration of AFM₁ was 0.9986 mg/litre. The maximum number of positive samples was observed in Raipur, Bilaspur, Durg, Jagdalpur and Champa localities. The individual and bulk milk samples from cows and buffaloes contaminated with AFM₁ showed the following average values: 1.00623, 0.80773, 0.6005 and 0.5302 mg/litre. The market milk samples contained an average of 0.4586 mg/litre AFM₁. All the milk product samples contained a higher level of AFM₁ than the recommended level by FDA. The maximum contents of the toxin in rabri, SMP, WMP, processed cheese, dahi, burfi, khoa and paneer were 1.298, 1.274, 1.632, 1.34, 1.058, 1.112, 1.123 and 1.502 mg/kg, respectively.
