When curing a dairy cattle population suffering from mastitis, strict hygienic measures for the completion and maintenance of therapy must be taken absolutely consequently. On the occasion of a study taken out in Bavaria for the period of two years 11,309 dairy farmers were questioned about hygienic measures against infections. In detail it was evaluated if milk was controlled during pre-milking, if teat cleaning before milking and post-milking teat disinfection (teat dipping) was done, if dry cow therapy was practiced, if the milking machine was serviced and its functioning checked regularly. Where needed the farmer was instructed to induce improvements. The study showed the effect of specific consultation of the farmers. Mistakes were corrected the better the more the farmer was instructed. Technical defects of the milking machine were eliminated much better and quicker than hygienic procedures were changed. 收起
