Unlike most previous studies that have relied on the continuous but short-term measurement of noise levels, the present study measured the noise levels within a campus over a 10-year period. This period encompassed the development of an unused parcel of land into the fully operational campus. The results of the analysis confirm that the long-term evolution of noise emissions was correlated with the volume of activity on the campus. The correlations between noise peaks and campus construction projects and between the increase in daytime noise level and the increase in the number of day school attendees are particularly significant. The results of this study can be used in the estimation of noise emissions for a campus under development or in full operation, when conducting an environmental impact assessment of the construction machinery and equipment. 收起
