Thrips-transmitted tospoviruses are among the economically important pathogens of tomatoes that causes significant crop losses worldwide. In surveys for Tomato spotted wilt virus in the major tomato production areas of Kenya between March 2010 and January 2012, chlorotic ring spots on fruits with stem and leaf necrosis were observed frequently. Based on DAS-ELISA tests and RT-PCR assays, the causal agent was identified as Tomato yellow ring virus (TYRV). This is thought to be the first report of TYRV infecting tomatoes in Kenya. 收起
