However, temporal variations and climate oscillations are less clear, especially for extreme events. This study investigates temporal variations in extreme daily precipitation, extreme daily maximum and minimum temperature (T(max )and T-min) during the last decades in Shaanxi Province, China, by a quantile perturbation method with a nonparametric bootstrap method testing significance. Six extreme variables, including precipitation (R95p and R99p), maximum temperature (TX95 and TX99), and minimum temperature extremes (TN5 and TN1), based on percentiles are examined. The results show extreme heavy-precipitation is prevailing during the 1950s, the 1980s, and the last decade. A systematic oscillation can be observed in the south. A cluster of high extremes of precipitation occurred with periods of 25-35 years. High extreme T-max cluster every 30 years or so, and show a negative relationship with high extremes of precipitation. The fluctuations of extreme T-min, are inconsistent in time and space. Five climate indices are examined to investigate correlation between large-scale ocean-atmosphere conditions and the extreme meteorological variables. The results show ocean-atmosphere condition of the Pacific Ocean is the most effective driver of extreme heavy-precipitation and high temperature, and ocean-atmosphere conditions of the Arctic and the Indian Ocean have an impact on extreme low temperature. 收起
