Essential oils and glucosynolates are natural compounds that show biocidal activity. In this research, essential oils extracted from Rosmarinus officinalis, Thymus vulgaris, Origanum vulgare, Carum carvi, Melissa officinalis and glucosynolates-based treatments, were adopted on tomato cultivation in substitution of pesticides; untreated plants and plants treated with pesticides were used as controls. During crop cycle and at harvesting, relieves on biotic damages were performed. The viral incidences in untreated control, in pesticides treatment and in oregano+fungicides, were 11.3, 8.3 and 4.6% respectively. Damages on fruits due to Tuta absoluta were lower in glucosinolates+fungicide against late blight (Phytophthora infestans), with respect to untreated control and plants treated with pesticides (5.6, 9.0 and 9.0% respectively). Oils of rosemary, thyme, oregano and melissa, used in combination with fungicides, were able to reduce the number of rotten tomato berries too. These results suggest that essential oils and glucosynolates compounds can be used to control biotic stresses on tomato cultivated in open field.
