Findings of cross-sectional survey revealed plethora of materials and practices rela... 展开 A study was conducted to document the traditional knowledge system of dairy farmers in the area of breeding, feeding, hearth care and management. Findings of cross-sectional survey revealed plethora of materials and practices related to dairy farming from the study area. Prominent among them were viz. not falling of stone if put on the back of animal as symptom of pregnancy, applying solution of salt in milk on the animal's buttock for the treatment of mastitis, pouring of fine glass powder in theinfected eye of animal, allowing animal to remain stand in mud for few hours to control foot and mouth disease (FMD), crushing of testes with stone or wooden hammer to castrate the male calves, even at the age of 3-4 years, applying paste of Ca (OH)_2 onthe horn for expulsion of placenta etc. Although these practices appear to be illogical and unscientific, have strongly supported dairy farmers and are in vogue since generation in the study area. Therefore, there is urgent need to scientifically validate these practices for its incorporation into technology development process. 收起
