The efficacy of extracts (each at 500 ml/plot) of leaves of neem (Azadirachta indica), rhizome of ginger and bulb of garlic was investigated against fusarium wilt of tomato and aubergine, caused by Fusarium oxysporum and F. solani [Haematonectria haematococca], respectively, in field trials conducted during cropping season (January-February) in 2004 and 2005 in Bankura, West Bengal, India. The neem extract was superior over garlic and ginger extracts in controlling the wilt of tomato and aubergine. The application of neem resulted in 48.69 and 43.75% infection reduction in tomato plants in 2004 and 2005, respectively, compared to the untreated naturally infected soil. On aubergine plants, 43.33 and 49.57% infection reduction was achieved in 2004 and 2005, respectively.
