Average lactation yield was 2075+-20.26 and 950+-7.88 litres and lactation length 9.11+-0.05 and 8.18+-0.02 months for crossbred and indigenous cows respectively. Management factors that had the greatest influence on lactation yield were housing (56.54% contribution), milking (13.04%) and calves (2.4%) for crossbred cows and milking (32.69%), feeding (29.60%) and breeding (3.61%) for indigenous cows; milk yield of crossbred cows was also influenced by availability of input service, herd size and income, whereas that of indigenous cows was influenced by extension contact availability and adoption of a positive attitude. Lactation length of crossbred cows was influenced mainly by feed and green fodder availability (56%) whilst management of calves, housing and breeding respectively contributed 36, 5.5 and 2.5%. Feeding, breeding and milking management respectively contributed 46.5, 21.9 and 2.3% and breeding facilities 19.5% to lactation length of indigenous cows. 收起
