Nigeria dreams of becoming one of the top countries in terms of maritime contribution globally.The question many experts are asking is how possible is this dream to become a reality?And also,can this dream of high prospect be achievable in a country where most of the maritime issues are caused by many personnel who lack vision to move the sector forward?There are also many doubting“Thomases”who don’t believe in this dream just as many other port experts still believe that Nigeria has all it takes to make its maritime sector one of the best in the world.There is also a question of time how long will it take for the Nigeria Maritime Sector to achieve this dream. In this paper,I have been able to highlight and analyse the numerous problems that the Nigerian Maritime sector is facing with a deep background on the sector and how the industry is governed and operated.Nigeria dreams of becoming one of the best countries in the world in terms of maritime contribution in Africa and the world at large.For Nigeria to achieve its maritime dreams,Nigeria must first tackle the problems parading its maritime sector.This is very important because the sector is crumbling on a daily basis and it is high time Nigeria started working on the necessary plans to achieve its maritime aims and objectives.I have been able tostudy what the Nigerian Maritime Authority is doing in preparation for the future,I have also proffer solutions to the problems facing the sector with the aim of preparing the Nigerian Maritime industry for a better future.This paper has further given suggestions to what theNigerian Maritime sector can learn from other countries who are doing are more advanced in their maritime sector. 收起
