Keyvariables are ... 展开 This study examines how racial/ethnic discriminationinfluences financial access and material hardship, usingsurvey data collected from self-identified Korean immigrantsliving in two counties in Alabama (N = 241). Keyvariables are experiencing racial/ethnic discrimination,two subjective measures of financial access, and four indicatorsof material hardship (overall, food-related, healthinsurance, and medical care). Descriptive analyses show ahigh rate of experiencing racial/ethnic discrimination, limitedaccess to basic financial services and credit, and considerablerates of material hardship. Regression analysesindicate that experiencing discrimination has a significantassociation with access to credit but not with access tobasic financial services. Access to credit has a significantand negative association with all types of material hardship.Our findings challenge the model minority myth ofsocially and economically integrated Asian/Korean immigrants.Results call for anti-discrimination policies andpublic efforts to expand financial access and reduce materialhardship among Korean immigrants. 收起
