Effective management of these LMEs is crucial for maintaining marine ecosystem system health and the goods and services the LMEs provide. Such management must be able to rely on credible catch data. The catch data used here were based on the national catch reconstructions performed by the Sea Around Us, as also documented in www.searoundus.org, but these could not fully compensate for the deficiencies of the fisheries statistical systems of several major countries in Asia, as reflected in exaggerated catch levels and uninformative catch compositions. 收起
