The question of whether evangelical Christian faith content can fit into 'Conjunctive Faith' structure is prompted by J.W. Fowler's book 'Stages of faith: The psychology of human development and the quest for meaning' which proposes 6 stages of faith development, Conjunctive Faith being faith stage 5. Fowler suggests that faith is a human endeavor and deals with how a person believes (structure) rather than what a person believes (content), and that this faith develops in 6 invariant, sequential, and universal stages. Evangelicals do not take issue with Fowler until faith stage 5 which suggests that the person at this stage of development will hold doctrinal truth claims (content) to be relative. At face value, faith stage 5 would exclude evangelical participation in the higher faith stages since the absolute nature of cardinal doctrines would, be definition, be called into question. Yet, many features of Conjunctive Faith commend themselves to the evangelical, so summary rejection of faith stage 5 would be inappropriate. To test the acceptability of Conjunctive Faith to evangelicals it was decided to compare evangelical content to faith stage 5 structure. Applications of the 'evangelically defined' faith stage 5 is examined with emphasis placed the ministry fo the US Navy Chaplain Corps which presently exhibits qualities consistent with the proposed rewording of Conjunctive Faith. This ministry practices a form of pluralism that emphasizes cooperation, but does not require relativizing of content nor relinquishing exclusivistic truth claims.

The U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (the Commission or USCIRF) is the first government commission in the world with the sole mission of reviewing and making policy recommendations on the facts and circumstances of religious freedom violations abroad. The Commission's impact and its success in accomplishing its mission are dependent on bringing advice and accountability to U.S. foreign policy in its promotion of international religious freedom. By providing reliable information and analysis, and careful and creative policy recommendations, the Commission provides the U.S. government and the American public the tools necessary to promote this fundamental freedom throughout the world. In its three years of operation, the Commission has made recommendations to the Administration and Congress that have had a significant impact on the promotion of religious freedom as an integral part of U.S. foreign policy. The Commission's recommendations have been implemented by the President, the State Department, and Congress on several countries that violate international norms of religious freedom, including Afghanistan, China, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK or North Korea), Pakistan, Sudan, and Vietnam.

The sermon of St. Peter, as recorded in Acts 2:14-40, is regarded as an instance of the kerygma or apostolic proclamation. It is the first recorded sermon by the Prince of the Apostles who preached immediately after the reception of the Holy Spirit. The kerygma was addressed to a nonChristian audience to bring to its members the good news of salvation in Christ Jesus. The homily 'is the communication of the word based on the Word of God in the scriptures, spoken within the context of the sacred liturgy, and directed to the building up of the faith and sanctification of God's people in the Church'. Kerygma seeks to initiate Faith among nonChristians, while the homily addresses itself to those already possessing the Faith. The purpose of this thesis is not to equate these two forms of Christain preaching but 'to seek out those features in the kerygma which can, and perhaps should, influence homiletic preaching because of a kinship to the apostolic message.'

Charles Taze Russell's views of the church fit into the theme of chronologicalprimitivism, that of restoring the biblical church, prevalent among other nineteenth-century religious leaders. His view of the church moves in two directions. While emphasizing antisectarianism, ahistoricism, and the importance of freedom in declaring that the church is not yet completed, he nevertheless does develop a church structure which increasingly restricts freedom and eventually contributes to sectarianism. What were his views and where did they come from. While in some ways his views are very clear regarding the church, on the other hand there is confusion. After sketching Russell's life, this thesis considers his views on sectarianism and on church history. The author explores his views on the church and what they include by comparing the 1891-1896 period with that which came after 1990. Russell's views on the New Covenant (in contrast to that which is in the Old Testament), about whether the New Covenant is sealed and in force or not, will be considered because not only does the resulting controversy suggest confusion, but it is directly related to the role of the church. This thesis will examine the philosophical shift of postmodernity, along with its challenges and opportunities for ministry. I have intentionally limited the scope of this thesis to the epistemological issues relating to postmodernism and their implications for preaching. Where it is relevant, I will raise some of the social and cultural issues relating to postmodernism, but these will be limited in scope. The focus of this thesis is in providing an answer to the question, How do we preach to postmoderns in order to bring about transformation in their lives. In order to investigate this question, we will examine a wide variety of sources which describe this current shift of postmodernism and various approaches that have been advocated for meeting this new challenge. In addition, we will examine the various homiletical methods, both past and present, to determine the best model for connecting with postmodern audiences. In arriving at an answer to the research question, we will argue that the truths of Scripture need not be watered down and though preaching to postmoderns requires some contextualization, it is certainly possible to bridge that cultural gap and face squarely the challenge postmodernism poses for preaching in the 21st Century.

This article aims to unravel some of the religious background to the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on what began as a 'perfect day' in September in New York and Washington. It looks too at the religious background to events that have followed on from those attacks. Much of the latter part of the article will be devoted to examining any perceived 'clash' from the Muslim point of view in an attempt to generate a better understanding of how at least some Muslims view the West in general and America in particular. It will look, again from the Muslim point of view, at how any perception of a clash might be either ameliorated or neutralized.
