The experimental evidence for resonant states coupled to the baryon--antibaryon system is reviewed. The evidence for broad states known as the S(1963), T(2190) and U(2350) is compelling, however, there is no evidence for I = 2 states and the observation of narrow states needs confirmation. Experiments planned for the characterization of the 35 GHz gyrotron, which is being built at the Plasma Lab of INPE, are described. The methods of the measurements are presented, and the required instrumentation and devices are specified. Special attention is given to the measurement techniques of the resonator electric field profile.

Preliminary results from the Mark II and Crystal Ball experiments on radiative transitions from the psi to ordinary hadrons are presented. In additon to the previously observed transitions to the eta, eta'(958), and f(1270), both groups observe a transition to a state which is tentatively identified as the E. (ERA citation 05:034276)

Weakly irregular waveguides which, under appropriate conditions, can be considered as open resonators are studied. Through the analysis of a variety of resonators, the influence of the cavity geometry on the longitudinal electric field distribution is discussed, aiming toward optimum field profiles with associated high efficiency operation. Open resonators operating in the TE 021 mode are presented, which have been designed for a 35 GHz gyrotron under construction at INPE.

The theoretical picture of K and D decays is reviewed in order to explain why large enhancements are not expected in D decays. This expectation is contrasted with the available data on lifetimes and semileptonic branching ratios, which hint at large enhancements but are still ambiguous. Some of the theoretical ideas proposed to explain the enhancement of D exp 0 , and possibly F exp + nonleptonic decays are discussed. One of these, together with data presented earlier, suggests a way to detect the F exp + and a possible gluonium state in one fell swoop. New data on D implies rhoK/ pi K have implications for models which predict large nonleptonic enhancements from decays into exclusive final states. These are discussed. (ERA citation 05:029795)

Twenty years ago, the Particle Data Group adopted a systematic naming convention for baryons: the symbols N, delta , lambda , sigma , xi , and omega were to identify the isospin and strangeness, The mesons, by contrast, have become an alphabet soup of uninformative names - theta, iota, xi, zeta, g/sub T/, g/sub s/, H, E, delta, h, g, r, kappa, etc. -, and in some cases identical names are used for mesons with different quantum numbers (A, B, and D). Furthermore, experimentalists are now discovering baryons that contain heavy quarks. It is therefore timely to consider systematic naming conventions both for mesons and for baryons with heavy quarks. The Particle Data Group is circulating this proposal in the hope of generating feedback, and we attach a sheet for responses. It should be emphasized that the Particle Tables would show both the old and new names for some time. (ERA citation 10:022045)

We investigate numerically the electric and the magnetic response of the split-ring resonators (SRRs) for different electromagnetic (EM) field polarization and propagation directions. We have studied the current density J of circular and rectangular SRRs at THz frequencies. At low frequencies, J is confined to the edges of the SRRs, while at high frequencies J is all over the width of the wire. The diamagnetic response of the SRRs is also examined. Finally, the role of losses and the magnetic resonance frequency are studied as the size of the SRRs becomes less than 100 nm.
