The electrodeposition of Cu-Zn alloys on nickel substrate was investigated in the 50.0-50.0 mol% zinc chloride-1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride molten salt containing copper chloride. The Zn content in the deposited Cu-Zn alloys can be varied by the deposition potential. Analysis of the chronoamperometric current-time transients suggests that the electrodeposition of pure copper in this melt involves instantaneous three-dimensional nucleation with diffusion-controlled growth. However, as the deposition potential crosses from pure copper metal region into the alloy forming region, the nucleation process changes to progressive nucleation. The X-ray diffraction analysis indicated that the deposited Cu-Zn alloy had α and β phases. The energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and the scanning electron microscope (SEM) were also used to study the composition and surface morphology of the deposits.

Map generalization is used to derive maps for secondary scales and/or specific goals. This operationgreatly benefits spatial decision support systems as itcan provide a global and simplified representation of aphenomenon discarding irrelevant information. Therecent popularity of OLAP systems for variousapplication domains has generated much interest forthe development of Spatial OLAP (SOLAP) modelsthat integrate spatial data in data warehouse andOLAP systems. Although powerful under some respect, current SOLAP models cannot support mapgeneralization capabilities. In this paper, we present aconceptual multidimensional model integrating mapgeneralization. The model extends SOLAP spatialhierarchies introducing multi-associationrelationships, and supports imprecise measures.

We study the impact of using a virtual machine for the configuration of radio physical layer protocols on a real hardware platform: the Magali chip. The virtual machine is programmed in software on the ARM processor present on the platform. We evaluate the additional cost of the virtual machine layer on the effective implementation of telecommunication physical layer protocols. The results, obtained using the mixed SystemC/VHDL cycle accurate simulator of the Magali platform, show that, although the proof of concept is valid and functional, extra optimizations, such as additional hardware mechanisms, will be necessary to obtain real-time performance.

Coviz is a tool that uses visualization to support spontaneous construction, organization and exploration of collections. We use the term collection to identify a set of documents gathered for a given purpose by one or several individuals. Coviz facilitates creation, organization and update of collections by providing multi-scale visualization and interaction techniques. Coviz has been tested in several informative case studies involving small groups of users. In these situations, Coviz has fulfilled several important aspects of both groups and personal organization needs. Our initial experiments indicate that Coviz can even encourage unusual and interesting forms of cooperation among people.

AADL is a modeling language to design and analyze High-Integrity Distributed and Real-time systems. Embedded sub-languages published as AADL annexes extend an AADL model to enhance analysis. The behavior annex specifies the behavior of an AADL application model. Thus, an implantation of this annex allows to perform behavior analysis. In addition, as there are several AADL annexes, the implementation of generic mechanisms to support each one of them is challenging. The behavior annex is a valid candidate to illustrate these challenges by combining several sub-languages. In this paper we expose our experiment to support the behavior annex in the reference AADL tool set OSATE2. This one, supports the AADL version 2 by providing a front-end and a set of analysis plug-ins to analyze an AADL model.

Real-Time Embedded systems must respect a wide range of non-functional properties, including safety, respect of deadlines, power or memory consumption. We note that correct hardware resource dimensioning requires taking into account the impact of the whole software, both the user code and the underlying run time environment. AADL allows one to precisely capture all of them. In this article, we evaluate the AADL modeling to define memory architectures, and then verification rules to assess that the memory is correctly dimensioned. We use the REAL domain-specific language to express memory requirements (such as layout or size) and then validate them on a case-study using the VxWorks real-time kernel.

In the recent years, photo context metadata (e.g.,date, GPS coordinates) have been proved to be useful in the management of personal photos. However, these metadata are still poorly considered in photo retrieving systems. In order to overcome this limitation, we propose an approach to incorporate contextual metadata in a keyword-based photo retrieval process. We use metadata about the photo shot context (address location, nearby objects, season, light status...) to generate a bag of words for indexing each photo. We extend the Vector Space Model in order to transform these shot context words into document-vector terms. In addition, spatial reasoning and geographical ontologies are used to infer new indexing terms. This facilitates the query-document matching process and also allows performing semantic comparison between the query terms and photo annotations.

Nyquist format of AC Impedance Spectroscopy (ACIS) of concrete will show the microstructure and permeability of the specimen. Usually, at high frequency range a semicircle in Nyquist plot will show the porosity and the dimension of fractals of the specimen while at low frequency range a straightline of slope 1 will describe the diffusivity and permeability of it. Fly ash as blend will change the Nyquist plot with the result that one can see how it influences the microstructure of concrete and hence its performance. Furthermore, the mechanism of the change can be elucidated and its dynamics can be estimated.
