Most of the literatures on offshoring focus on measuring success of offshoring or identifying the success factors in outsourcing. In this paper, we study the impact of Offshoring on firm-level and the relationship between offshoring motivation and success of offshoring, and between offshoring risk factors and success of offshoring. A large scale survey will be conducted and through this, we plan to identify the practices which result in success of offshoring to the firm through critical success factor analysis.

The increased IT offshoring presents many benefits as well as challenges to today's organizations. One major challenge is the competition between the onshore and offshore sites or among the global sites in the offshoring relationship for job security, challenging projects, status and resources. The competition in offshoring relationships is complex and dynamic. Unmanaged or inappropriately managed competition seriously undermines IT offshoring efforts. However, very little research has been conducted in this important area. Organizations and managers urgently need guidance on managing competition in offshoring relationships to reap the benefits of offshoring. This paper analyzes the different drivers and strategies of offshoring, investigates into the reasons and affects of competition in different phases of offshoring and proposes a three-stage model on the evolution of the competition. It is proposed that, as offshoring furthers, competition in the offshoring relationship may evolve in three stages: individual competition, territorial competition and resource competition. At each stage the competition varies in intensity, focus and consequences. This model provides for managers a systematic means to analyze the state of competition in their offshoring relationships and also guidelines on coping with the competition.

Wind offshore is stronger and more stable compared to the onshore counterpart making offshore wind an attractive way to achieve EU's carbon emission targets. The power output increases exponentially with increase in wind speed. With larger wind turbines, 66 kV array cables and 220 kV export cables, it is now possible to export up to 420 MW through a single offshore AC cable and transformer. This makes offshore transformer a critical component in ensuring generation availability. Harvesting power offshore requires a state-of-the-art design to combat corrosion. Transport and maintenance offshore come with higher cost and greater risk, designing a maintenance free system is far from reach, however avoiding or replacing components that require frequent maintenance can reduce maintenance hours offshore thereby reducing risks and improve availability Maintenance offshore should ideally be timed when weather and sea conditions are acceptable. Adding condition monitoring system to equipment placed offshore will help in timing maintenance works. Comprehensive data from the condition monitoring system will also help with future improvements. Applying a lean design concept is the key for offshore environment, as it leads to less components requiring maintenance offshore thus helping to achieving a much lighter offshore platform and significant cost savings.

Wind tunnel testing is an almost universal practice in the design of floating production installations (FPIs). The results of these tests have been applied to many aspects of design; including mooring and stability analyses. This paper reports on the parametric study of six different FPIs that operate in the Gulf of Mexico and compares the results of the stability analyses based on wind moments determined with wind tunnel tests and wind moments calculated by the conventional Building Block Methodology. The results of this investigation are presented in the form of allowable VCG and relative effect of the topside weight capacity.

Geothermal energy is energy that is sourced from the heat of the Earth. It is classified as a renewable energy resource and is exploited and utilized for power generation purposes onshore, mostly by countries who live in close proximity to the boundaries of Earth's tectonic plates where geothermal energy is abundant, predominantly in its most active parts,in what is termed as the Pacific Ring of Fire. This geothermal energy-rich area not only covers those that are on land, but also extends offshore. However, the exploitation and utilization of geothermal energy in the offshore setting has historically been deemed uneconomic and not feasible. But with the advent of new offshore drilling and power generation technologies and the increasing cost of conventional energy sources, the idea deserves reconsideration. This paper presents a review of the literature available on the subject of offshore geothermal energy utilization and lists down challenges it has yet to hurdle in order to be realized. It considers the possible utilization of geothermal energy for existing and planned subsea petroleum development projects as well other applications where it might be of benefit, maybe not in the conventional large-scale power conversion sense it is used for on land but as a modular, scalable, sustainable and renewable energy resource offshore.

Distributed Software Development is recent as a research area. With the evolution of its practice, more questions have emerged, and more research has been conducted. Consequently, this resulted in an increase in the existent literature. At the same time, the diversity of industry experience in the last ten years has been used to develop successful practices. We lack, however, knowledge of patterns of evolution in the practice of distributed software development that have been identified and proposed in the literature. In this paper, we present findings from the quantitative analysis of a systematic review of the literature of distributed software development. The goal of the review was to identify papers that either describe existing models referring to patterns of evolution in the practice of distributed software development, or discuss the need for such models.
