Peer-to-Peer (P2P) data integration combines the P2P infrastructure with traditional scheme-based data integration techniques. Some of the primary problems in this research area are the techniques to be used for querying, indexing and distributing documents among peers in a network especially when document files are in XML format. In order to handle this problem we describe an XML P2P system that efficiently distributes a set of clustered XML documents in a P2P network in order to speed-up user queries. The novelty of the proposed system lies in the efficient distribution of the XML documents and the construction of an appropriate virtual index on top of the network peers.

XML has become a popular representation format for data, both in modeling and simulation and elsewhere. However, XML's design choice of a text-based format also makes XML data files much larger than binary files, making XML languages difficult to use in bandwidth-constrained military applications. This limitation has resulted in several ad-hoc attempts to make XML more compact, each of which tends to be incompatible with the other. Efficient XML Interchange (EXI) is a World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Working Draft for the compact and efficient representation of the XML infoset. EXI is designed to be generally applicable to all XML documents, and lays the foundation for a unified format for compact XML document representation. This paper presents compactness results for several popular modeling and simulation XML file formats, including Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS), Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) and Extensible 3D Graphics (X3D). Recent commercial and open source EXI implementations are also described.

XML has been widely adopted for information exchange across various networks due to flexibility providing common syntax for messaging systems. XML documents may contain private information that cannot be shared by all user communities. Therefore, XML Security has a great importance to the overall security of the distributed systems. In this paper, we provide a comprehensive tutorial on XML security standards. The presented standards include XML signature and XML encryption. We describe how to create and verify XML signature and how to encrypt and decrypt XML data. This paper should serve as a roadmap for future research and basis for further exploration of relevant scientific literature and standard specifications.

This paper presents a graphical approach to model XML documents based on a Data Type Documentation called Graphical Notations-Data Type Documentation (GN-DTD). GN-DTD allows us to capture syntax and semantic of XML documents in a simple way but precise. Using various notations, the important features of XML documents such as elements, attributes, relationship, hierarchical structure, cardinality, sequence and disjunction between elements or attribute are visualize clearly at the schema level. We believe, by having GN-DTD as tool, helps the user to arrange the content of XML documents in order to give a better undertanding of DTD structures, to improve XML design and normalization process. In this paper we presented also the transformation rules to convert from GN-DTD to DTD.
