Security is a pre-requisite for internet banking. The purpose of this study is to explore the factors that are important to the implementation of Internet security of different types of financial institutes. A questionnaire survey was conducted on all types of financial institutions in Taiwan. A total of 573 questionnaires were mailed out to CIOs in domestic financial institutions with a response rate of 11.69%. The results of the study showed that different types of financial institutions have significantly different levels of concern in terms of factors such as the concern of software systems, hardware security, executives support, internal Internet system users, organizational characteristics, and organizational security policy. The implications of this study are discussed and suggestions for future research are presented.

This research provides a standard for generalizing the content of Internet storefronts. An element schema, which is created and defined using HTML tags categorizes the user interface and information elements presented on Internet storefronts. In order to explore the rule that elements play in characterizing popular and unpopular Internet storefronts, an analysis of the distribution of elements within the best and worst Internet storefronts was conducted. After extracting the elements underlying the construction of the best and worst Web-sites, a prototype storefront was reengineered to demonstrate the derived principles.

Research indicates that maladaptive patterns of Internet use constitute behavioral addiction. This article explores the research on the social effects of Internet addiction. There are four major sections. The Introduction section overviews the field and introduces definitions, terminology, and assessments. The second section reviews research findings and focuses on several key factors related to Internet addiction, including Internet use and time, identifiable problems, gender differences, psychosocial variables, and computer attitudes. The third section considers the addictive potential of the Internet in terms of the Internet, its users, and the interaction of the two. The fourth section addresses current and projected treatments of Internet addiction, suggests future research agendas, and provides implications for educational psychologists.

This article re-examines the popular concept of Internet addiction, discusses the key problems associated with it, and proposes possible alternatives. The concept of Internet addiction is inadequate for several reasons. Addiction may be a correct designation only for the minority of individuals who meet the general criteria for addiction, and it needs to be better demarcated from various patterns of excessive or abnormal use. Addiction to the Internet as a medium does not exist, although the Internet as a medium may play an important role in making some behaviors addictive. The Internet can no longer be separated from other potentially overused media, such as text messaging and gaming platforms. Internet addiction is conceptually too heterogeneous because it pertains to a variety of very different behaviors. Internet addiction should be replaced by terms that refer to the specific behaviors (eg, gaming, gambling, or sexual activity), regardless of whether these are performed online or offline.

This article introduces a cognitive-behavioral model of Pathological Internet Use (PIU). While previous studies on Internet addiction have described behavioral factors, such as with- drawal and tolerance, the present article focuses on the maladaptive cognitions associated with PIU. The cognitive-behavioral model of PIU distinguishes between specific PIU and generalized PIU. Specific PIU refers to the condition in which an individual pathologically uses the Internet for a particular purpose, such as online sex or online gambling, whereas generalized PIU describes a more global set of behaviors. The model implies a more impor- tant role of cognitions in PIU, and describes the means by which PIU is both developed and maintained. Furthermore. it provides a framework for the development of cognitive- behavioral interventions for PIU.

This paper reports a study investigating the relationship between Internet identification, Internet anxiety and Internet use. The participants were 446 students (319 females and 127 males) from two universities in the UK and one university in Australia. Measures of Internet identification and Internet anxiety were developed. The majority of participants were NOT anxious about using the Internet, although there were approximately 8% who showed evidence of Internet anxiety. There was a significant and negative relationship between Internet anxiety and Internet use. Those who were more anxious about using the Internet used the Internet less, although the magnitude of effect was small. There was a positive and significant relationship between Internet use and Internet identification. Those who scored high on the measure of Internet identification used the Internet more than those who did not. There was also a significant and negative relationship between Internet anxiety and Internet identification. Finally, males had a significantly higher Internet identification score than females. Implications of these findings are discussed.

The Internet and the World Wide Web represent the greatest technological innovations in the world, yet contain plenty of risks and dangers, and every information user should be aware of them. Perez (2013) cites Giones and Serrat saying that "identity on the Internet can be defined as a digital representation of a set of claims made by one party about itself or another data subject".

Despite increasing development and administration of Internet surveys, tests, and many other applications to be used by employees and the general public, little is known about the knowledge individuals bring to Internet tasks. This research improves our understanding of the concept of Internet knowledge, and provides initial support for the construct validity of a new measure of Internet knowledge with respect to its factor structure, internal consistency reliability, and concurrent validity. From a practical perspective, clearer definition of Internet knowledge and the availability of a reliable measure of such knowledge can advance our understanding of how individuals develop Internet experience through its use and may also inform the process by which web sites and Internet applications are designed.

For telemedicine to reach its potential in the Internet environment, significant progress must be made in a number of areas. The emerging telecommunications will include the Internet2 between medical institutions and emerging broadband loop and wireless technologies for interconnections to homes. Within the technical environment, problems that must be addressed include the development of robotic-controlled, remote-monitoring devices unique to the various medical specialties; the encoding, transmission, and decoding of raw data specific to the specialized needs of various medical application areas; and the reduction of data for storage and retrieval in patient records.

The decline of public consensus is often linked to the rise of the Internet. Conceptualizing the Internet as a context, this paper explores its impacts on public consensus on development. The data of the World Values Survey were used for multilevel analyses with 58,926 respondents in 38 countries. It reported three counterbalances. First, Internet penetration weakens public consensus on development, but promotes the individual use of the Internet, which strengthens public consensus on development. Second, Internet freedom and Internet participation contribute to a robust online democracy, which buffers the informational impact of Internet penetration. Third, public consensus on development is nurtured in a context where Internet freedom serves as an instrument to protect an open, free public sphere, but is fragmented by a country's overall ideological orientation towards freedom.
