Experimental system: Due to serious economic challenges posed by root-knot (Meloidogyne species) nematodes in sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas) production, the Sweet Potato Programme (SPP) of the Agricultural Research Council (ARC) in South Africa has since included screening for nematode host-status in its breeding-selection activities. Procedures: 20 sweet potato lines were screened against M. javanica, M. incognita race 2 and M. incognita race 4 in parallel trials inoculated with 3000 eggs and second-stage juveniles (J2) per established cutting. Results: At 56 days after inoculation, the reproductive potential (RP) of all test Meloidogyne species on sweet potato line 1990-10-2 was zero, whereas RP values on other lines were 19.48-342.7, 31.9-995.1 and 10.3-380.44 ranges for M. javanica, M. incognita race 2 and M. incognita race 4, respectively. Conclusion: Among the test sweet potato lines, line 1990-10-2 was non-host to populations of tropical Meloidogyne species in South Africa and could, therefore, be subjected to nematode resistance tests.

The curriculum vitae (CV) has been the traditional method for radiologists to illustrate their accomplishments in the field of medicine. Despite its presence in medicine as a standard, widely accepted means to describe one's professional career and its use for decades as an accomplice to most applications and interviews, there is relatively little written in the medical literature regarding the CV. Misrepresentation on medical students', residents', and fellows' applications has been reported. Using digital technology, CVs have the potential to be much more than printed words on paper and offers a solution to misrepresentation. Digital CVs may incorporate full-length articles, graphics, presentations, clinical images, and video. Common formats for digital CVs include CD-ROMs or DVD-ROMs containing articles (in Adobe Portable Document Format) and presentations (in Microsoft PowerPoint format) accompanying printed CVs, word processing documents with hyperlinks to articles and presentations either locally (on CD-ROMs or DVD-ROMs) or remotely (via the Internet), or hypertext markup language documents. Digital CVs afford the ability to provide more information that is readily accessible to those receiving and reviewing them. Articles, presentations, videos, images, and Internet links can be illustrated using standard file formats commonly available to all radiologists. They can be easily updated and distributed on an inexpensive media, such as a CD-ROM or DVD-ROM. With the availability of electronic articles, presentations, and information via the Internet, traditional paper CVs may soon be superseded by their electronic successors.

This study aims to evaluate the morphogenetic characteristics of three cultivars of Brachiaria brizantha subjected to nitrogen fertilization. The design was a randomized block in factorial arrangement 4x3; three cultivars of B. brizantha-Marandu, Piat?, Xaraés and four nitrogen levels-0, 80, 160 and 240 kg/ha, with three replications. The experimental units consisted of plastic pots filled with 5 dm3 of soil. Thereupon the establishment fertilization, varieties were sowed directly in the pots, leaving, after thinning, five plants per pot. Forty-five days after planting, it was done a standardization cut at 10 cm tall. Nitrogen levels were distributed according to the treatments, divided in three applications. The morphogenetic characteristics were evaluated in three tillers per sampling unit and data were submitted to analysis of variance and regression. For all evaluated characteristics there was no interaction between factors cultivar and nitrogen levels, verifying only the effects of nitrogen on the variables leaf appearance rate and phyllochron. The dose 240 kg/ha of N corresponds to the greater leaf appearance rate. Cultivar Marandu shows the higher leaf blade: pseudostem and ratio of leaf elongation rate and elongation pseudostem, which favors higher forage quality.

This paper assesses the potential of coherent vortex simulation (CVS) to compute three-dimensional turbulent mixing layers. CVS splits each turbulent flow realization IF into two orthogonal parts, one corresponding to coherent vortices which are kept, and the other to an incoherent background flow which is discarded. The CVS filter is applied to data from direct numerical simulations (DNS) of three-dimensional forced and unforced time-developing turbulent mixing layers. The coherent flow is IF represented by few wavelet modes, but these are sufficient to reproduce the vorticity probability distribution function and the energy spectrum out to the high-wavenumber end of the inertial range. The discarded incoherent background flow is homogeneous, small-amplitude and decorrelated. The CVS-filtering results are then compared with those obtained for the same compression ratio using Fourier low-pass filtering, as employed in large-eddy simulation (LES). Compared to the incoherent background flow of CVS filtering, the subgrid scales of LES filtering are less homogeneous, have much larger amplitude, and exhibit spatial correlations that makes modelling them a difficult challenge. Finally we present simulations of a time-developing mixing layer where the CVS filter is applied at each time step. The results show that CVS preserves the nonlinear dynamics of the flow, and that discarding the incoherent modes is sufficient to model turbulent dissipation.

The present experiment was conducted during 2013 and 2014 seasons, where two pomegranate cvs. Wardy and Manfalouty were subjected to single and combined applications of ZnSO_4 (0.3%) as foliar application, soil application of (CaSO_4) at 500 g/tree and a mixture of micro elements (zinc, manganese, iron, cupper, boron, magnesium, sulfur and molybdenum) at 2 g/l were added three times ( first of may, June and July). The selected pomegranate trees aged 9 year old grown in a sand-clay soil under flood irrigation system and spaced 6 5 meters apart in the experimental orchard of Horticulture Research Station, Shandaweel, Souhag Governorate, Egypt. The aim of the present study was to examine the effect of these nutrients on reducing fruit cracking and improving yield and fruit quality of pomegranate grown under Souhag Governorate conditions. Number of fruits/tree, marketable yield, fruit cracking % and most characteristics of the fruits (physical and chemical) were higher in cv. Manfalouty relative to Wardy. As a conclusion, subjecting Wardy and Manfalouty pomegranate cvs. to combined applications of ZnSO_4 (0.3%) as foliar application, soil application of (CaSO_4) at 500 g/tree and a mixture of micro elements as 2 g/l are very effective in controlling fruit cracking, improving yield and fruit physical and chemical quality grown under Souhag environmental conditions.

The purpose of this study is to utilize Monte Carlo Simulation methodology to determine the in-process limits for the parenteral solution manufacturing process. The Monte Carlo Simulation predicts the distribution of a dependable variable (such as drug concentration) in a naturally occurring process through random value generation considering the variability associated with the depended variable. The propagation of variation in drug concentration from batch to batch is cascading in nature during the following four formulation steps: 1) determination of drug raw material potency (or purity), 2) weighing of drug raw material, 3) measurement of batch volume, and 4) determination of drug concentration in the mix tank. The coefficients of variation for these four steps are denoted as CV1, CV2, CV3, and CV4, respectively. The Monte Carlo Simulation was performed for each of the above four cascading steps. The results of the simulation demonstrate that the in-process limits of the drug can be successfully determined using the Monte Carlo Simulation. Once the specification limits are determined, the Monte Carlo Simulation can be used to study the effect of each variability on the percent out of specification limits (OOL) for the in-process testing. Demonstrations were performed using the acceptance criterion of less than 5% of OOL batches, and the typical values of CV2 and CV3 being equal to 0.03% and 0.5%, respectively. The results show that for the in-process limits of +/- 1%, the values of CV1 and CV4 should not be greater than 0.1%. These assay requirements appear to be difficult to achieve for a given chemical analytical method. By comparison, for the In-process limits of +/- 4%, the requirements are much easier to achieve. The values of CV1 and CV4 should not be greater than 1.38%. In addition, the relationship between the percent OOL versus CV1 or CV4 is nonlinear per se. The number of OOL batches increases rapidly with increasing variability of CV1 or CV4.

Susceptibility to the insectBactrocera oleae and the fungiSpilocaea oleagina andSphaeropsis dalmatica was investigated in four olive cultivars, two for table fruit production (Kalamon and Chondrolia Chalkidikis) and two for oil production (Lianolia and Koroneiki). Cv. Chondrolia Chalkidikis was the most susceptible to all three pathogens, followed by cv. Kalamon. Soil plowing and the organic fertilizer Bio-Trust? (10-3-6+8% MgCO3+10% CaCO8) increased the susceptibility of all four tested olive cultivars to the insect and the two fungi. Correlations were found between the attacks byB. oleae and infections byS. oleagina andS. dalmatica on the four olive cultivars.

Natural sources of water are limited in Egypt. The rapidly growing populations necessitate continuous expansion of the cultivated area. This means an increase of the gap between the demands of water for irrigation and the limited water supply. Looking for other sources such as low quality water like (industrial effluent, drainage and sewage) must be used in irrigation of some garden and wood plants. This investigation was conducted on agricultural drainage wastewater from El Mohete drain (Marioteya Canal) west of Cairo; the samples were collected from different places during (Summer and Winter seasons). The wastewater contaminated with pathogenic microorganisms, the excess of fertilizers (inorganic & organic), heavy metals, and the residuals of pesticides. Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR) could remediate the wastewater as biological bioremediation to remove some pollutants such as pathogenic microorganisms, heavy metals and pesticides. Chemical remediation was used as nitrification inhibitor to stop transformation of ammonia to nitrate. This work was conducted to study the ability of PGPR strains e.g. Bacillus megaterium, Bacillus subtillis, Bacillus circulans, Paenibacillus polymyxa, Pseudomonas floresense, Serratia sp. and Azotobacter chroococcum 5, 9 and 23 to treat the drainage water for irrigation the Mentha viridis cv. and Gladiolas grandiflorus cv. plants. Two pot experiments were conducted in greenhouse. The treatments were applied as follows; Natural water, treated water and drainage water to irrigate the plant. Use the PGPR as inoculants and thiourea as nitrification inhibitor, Heavy metal treated was (Copper, Cobalt, Zinc, Cadmium and Mercury) the result showed us heavy metals removal by PGPR from drainage water. The characterizations of PGPRs as shown in the obtained results are they could enhance plant growth by using their own metabolism (solublizing phosphate, producing hormones or fixing nitrogen) as well as correlation of them with the potenit of effects on the growth of plants in unfavorable conditions in order to improve the efficiency of phytoremdiation of contarinated soils. The removal of heavy metals and the elimination of pesticides residues were markedly noticed in this investigation. Results also confirmed the ability of PGPRs in suppressing the effect of pathogenic bacteria like Salmonellasp and E.coli. These abilities are of great importance in terms of plant and soil health. Consequently, the role of PGPRs bacteria associated with plant rhizosphere in remediation of water and soil contaminations due to its biochemical activity and thus, stimulate plant growth is a great important subject in phytoremediation process nowadays.
