Although the anterior segment of the liver has been divided into segments 8 and 5, we have, during surgical or interventional procedures, occasionally encountered patients in whom the right anterior portal vein does not bifurcate into the superior and inferior branches. Thus, the in vivo anatomy of the right liver was reevaluated to clarify the segmental anatomy.

A 60-year-old male was referred to the ophthalmologic clinic with aggravated anterior uveitis and corneal edema despite the use of topical and systemic steroids. He had undergone cataract surgery in both eyes 15 years previous. Slit lamp examinations revealed a retained lens fragment in the inferior angle of the anterior chamber, with severe corneal edema and mild anterior uveitis. The corneal edema and uveitis subsided following surgical extraction of the lens fragment. That a retained lens fragment caused symptomatic anterior uveitis with corneal edema 15 years after an uneventful cataract surgery is unique. A retained lens fragment should be considered as one of the causes of anterior uveitis in a pseudophakic patient.

Introduction: Lateral anterior column release (ACR) is a minimally invasive option for the correction of sagittal plane deformity. To assemble a homogeneous picture of published research on ACR, an advanced bibliometric analysis was conducted to compile the top-ten most-cited articles on the topic of ACR. Methods: A keyword search using the Thomson Reuters Web of Knowledge was conducted to identify articles discussing the role of lateral ACR. The articles were then ranked based on the total number of citations to identify the ten most-cited articles published. A subjective appraisal of the findings of these articles was conducted to provide a ranked literature review and to examine trends in the study of ACR between 2012 and 2019. Results: The earliest published article on ACR was in 2012 by Deukmedjian et al . Three articles were in vitro biomechanical assessments of ACR, and seven articles were on outcome analyses, which were either case series or case controlled. The most-cited article was a biomechanical study authored by Uribe et al . The article with the highest rate of citations/year was authored by Manwaring et al . Uribe and the European Spine Journal were the most frequently cited author and journal, respectively. Conclusions: The lateral ACR approach has enjoyed significant scholarly attention since its advent. Higher-level analyses with robust control groups, larger sample sizes, and long-term follow-up are necessary to improve our understanding of this approach.

The anatomy of the anterior communicating artery complex plays a critical role in surgical treatment of anterior cerebral circulation aneurysms. A thorough description of vascular variations of the anterior communicating artery complex seems to be lacking. The aim of this study was to describe the anatomical variations of the anterior communicating artery complex.

Purpose To determine the distribution of anterior chamber depth (ACD), anterior chamber volume (ACV), and anterior chamber angle (ACA) values in a rural population over 5 years of age using the Pentacam. Methods In this cross-sectional study, samples were selected from over 1-year-old inhabitants of two villages in Iran using a multistage cluster sampling approach. All participants underwent the measurement of uncorrected and corrected visual acuity and auto-refraction, retinoscopy, subjective refraction, and slit lamp examination. Finally, corneal imaging was done for all subjects over 5 years of age using the Pentacam. Results Of 3851 selected individuals, 3314 participated in the study, of whom 2681 met the inclusion criteria. The mean age of the sample was 36.03 ± 18.5 years (range 6-90 years). The mean ACD, ACA, and ACV values were 3.37 mm (95% CI: 3.37-3.39), 34.82° (95% CI: 34.45-35.2), and 159.17 μL (95% CI: 156-161.36), respectively. The results of multiple linear regression models showed that ACD, ACA, and ACV values reduced with age, and ACD and ACV values were significantly higher in males. ACA and ACV values correlated inversely with central corneal thickness, while the ACA value correlated directly with keratometry and inversely with the ACV value. Conclusion This study is one of the few studies in the world showing changes in ACD values in different age groups using the Pentacam. According to the results, aging was associated with a decline in the mean ACD, ACA, and ACV values. These parameters were the largest in patients with emmetropia and smallest in hyperopic subjects.

Purpose To evaluate circular neodymium: YAG laser incision in cases of anterior capsular contraction syndrome (ACCS) by comparing it to radial Neodymium: YAG laser incision as for efficacy and safety. Settings Ophthalmology Department, Benha University Hospitals. Methods The study was done on 74 eyes of 66 patients with symptomatic ACCS. Eyes were randomly allocated to one of the two groups. Group I were treated by circular YAG laser anterior capsulo-tomy. Group II were treated by radial YAG laser anterior capsulotomy. All cases passed a full ophthalmic examination before laser capsulotomy, 1 week, 1 month, 6 months and 12 months after laser. Results BCVA at the 1st week and the 1st month after the capsulotomy did not show any significant difference between the two groups; however at the 3rd and 6th months, the circular group showed better visual acuity than the radial group (p 0.001 and < 0.001, respectively). All post-YAG UCVA and BCVA were significantly higher than pre-YAG UCVA and BCVA in both groups. IOL decentration occurred in two cases in radial group. Circular group had significantly higher percentage of contraction relief (94.4%) than the radial group (66.7%) with p value 0.003. Conclusion Circular Nd:YAG anterior capsulotomy is more effective and safe than radial capsulotomy in 1-year follow-up.
