Purpose The purpose of this paper is to develop a structural relationship model to study the relationship between causes and effects of poor communication and information exchange in construction projects using Smart-PLS.Design/methodology/approach The first method of this research is to identify the causes and effects factors of poor communication in construction projects from the extant of literature. The data used to develop the model was collected using a questionnaire survey, which targeted construction practitioners in the Malaysian construction industry. A five-point Likert type scale was used to rate the significance of the factors. The factors were classified under their relevant construct/group using exploratory factor analysis. A hypothetical model was developed and then transformed into Smart-PLS in which the hypothetical model suggested that each group of the cause factors has a direct impact on the effect groups. The hypothesis was tested using t-values and p-values. The model was assessed for its inner and outer components and achieved the threshold criterion. Further, the model was verified by engaging 14 construction experts to verify its applicability in the construction project setting.Findings The study developed a structural equation model to clarify the relationships between causes and effects of poor communication in construction projects. The model explained the degree of relationships among causes and effects of poor communication in construction projects.Originality/value The published academic and non-academic literature introduced many studies on the issue of communication including the definitions, importance, barriers to effective communication and means of poor communication. However, these studies ended up only on the general issue of communication lacking an in-depth investigation of the causes and effects of poor communication in the construction industry. The study implemented advanced structural modeling to study the causes and effects. The questionnaire, the data and concluding results fill the identified research gap of this study. The addressed issue is also of interest because communication is considered one of the main knowledge areas in construction management.

Purpose - Expanded awareness and application of recent PLS-SEM reporting practices were again called for by Hair (2022) in his PLS 2022 Keynote Address. This paper aims to analyze and extend the application of PLS-SEM in Industrial Management and Data Systems (IMDS) to focus on trends emerging in the more recent 2016-2022 period. Design/methodology/approach - A review of PLS-SEM applications in information systems studies published in IMDS and M1SQ for the period 2012-2022 identifies and comments on a total of 135 articles. Selected emerging advanced analytical PLS-SEM applications are also highlighted to expand awareness of their value in more rigorously evaluating model results. Findings - There is a continually increasing maturity of the information systems field in applying PLS-SEM, particularly for IMDS authors. Model complexity and improved prediction assessment as well as other advanced analytical options are increasingly identified as reasons for applying PLS-SEM. Research limitations/implications - Findings demonstrate the continued use and acceptance of PLS-SEM as a useful alternative research methodology within IS. PLS-SEM is the preferred SEM method in many research settings, but particularly when the research objective is prediction to the population, mediation and mediated moderation, formative constructs are specified, constructs must be modeled as higher-order and for competing model comparisons. Practical implications - This update on PLS-SEM applications and recent methodological developments will help authors to better understand and apply the method, as well as publish their work. Researchers are encouraged to engage in more complete analyses and include enhanced reporting procedures. Originality/value - Applications of PLS-SEM for prediction, theory testing and confirmation are increasing. Information systems scholars should continue to exercise sound practice by reporting reasons for using PLS-SEM and recognizing its wider applicability for both exploratory and confirmatory research.

Sr2SiS4 : Eu2+, Ca2SiS4 : Eu2+ and the solid solution of both, europium-doped (Ca,Sr)(2)SiS4, were investigated as UV-VIS excitable green to red powder phosphors. Sr2SiS4 : Eu2+ shows two emission bands, peaking at 480 and 550 nm. By changing the ratio between Ca2+ and Sr2+, the photoluminescent emission spectrum can be tuned. Using x-ray diffraction, the phase composition and lattice parameters of the thiosilicate compounds were determined. The material forms a single, monoclinic Sr2SiS4-like phase up to 40% substitution of Sr2+ by Ca2+. From 50% to 90% of substitution by Ca2+, phase separation was observed, leading to more complex emission spectra. These spectra were studied in detail using photoluminescence spectroscopy, cathodoluminescence microscopy and temperature dependent optical measurements. The thermal quenching temperature decreases from 470 K in Ca2SiS4 : Eu2+ to 380 K in Sr2SiS4 : Eu2+ upon increasing substitution of Ca2+ by Sr2+. The possibilities of these materials as wavelength converters for white light emitting diodes were evaluated.

Information Communication Technologies (ICTs) have created new opportunities to deliver recycling education. This study employs the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology-2 (UTAUT-2) to examine primary factors impacting U.S. residents’ intention to use recycling mobile applications. Uniquely, the research interrogates whether ICT adoption can increase the intention to recycle household waste and thus generate social change. The data, from an online survey of 1215 app users located in New Jersey, is analyzed using Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM). Results demonstrate that performance expectancy, facilitating conditions, hedonic motivation, and habit, have a positive and significant effect on the intention to use recycling apps. The intention to use apps also has a positive and significant effect on the intention to recycle. The results support the use of ICTs as a tool for building recycling habits. Recommendations for solid waste management practitioners, and app developers, are also discussed.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to segment mobile wallet users using a finite mixture partial least squares (FIMIX-PLS) approach and evaluate the unobserved heterogeneity across segments.Design/methodology/approach Partial least square structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) using a convenience sample of 744 responses was used to analyze the measurement, structural model and hypotheses testing. To examine unobserved heterogeneity and identify user segments, FIMIX-PLS technique was employed. To generate more precise recommendations, importance-performance map analysis (IPMA) was performed with attitude as the target variable.Findings A structural equation model revealed that except perceived ease of use (PEOU) all other dimensions, namely perceived usefulness (PU), lifestyle compatibility (LC), facilitating conditions (FC), trust and security significantly influences attitude which, in turn, determines intention. The FIMIX-PLS technique resulted in four segments – The Rationalist, Early Adopters, Late Adopters and The Innovators.Practical implications The paper provides segment specific and between segment differences to derive implications. Identification of relevant predictors and segments will help academicians, marketing researchers and practitioners in gaining further understanding of the mobile wallet adoption. The findings of the paper can guide mobile wallet providers to frame appropriate strategies and offerings pertaining to the obtained segments.Originality/value The paper builds upon Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) to propose an integrated model to explain adoption behaviors associated with mobile wallet. To the best of the authors' knowledge, this is one of the first empirical attempts using FIMIX-PLS technique to assess precursors of adoption and substantiates the perceived value-attitude-intention linkage to identify heterogeneity among mobile wallet users.

A significant issue in the construction sector is poor safety performance. Construction sites are hazardous and prone to crashes, with several risks that can lead to accidents, injuries, or even the deaths of site workers or passing road users. Numerous studies have addressed this topic but there aren’t many studies in Saudi Arabia that are comparable. The purpose of this research is to determine which obstacles are standing in the way of the construction industry’s adoption of health and Safety Program. Starting with literature research, obstacles to the implementation of safety initiatives are noted. An analysis method known as the Partial Least Square Structural Equation Model (PLS-SEM) was utilized to look into additional barriers. It is recommended that a national governance structure be established in order to overcome these barriers and improve safety performance in the construction industry. Decision-makers would move decisively to establish and enhance safety practices in light of the proposed model’s outcomes. By identifying, assessing, and reducing the primary obstacles to safety program implementation, the study’s findings help Saudi Arabia improve safety practices for building projects.

Paratransit is an urban informal public transportation which is very responsive and fill the vulnerability of conventional public transportation services. This transportation operates in urban areas which are conventional transportation operational areas or non-conventional transportation service areas. This study aims to investigate the effect of services and characteristics of paratransit on the triggering aspects of changes in urban land patterns. The investigation was carried out with the perception data of becak masin users in the city of Padangsidimpuan. The perception of 300 users is processed using the SEM-PLS (structural equation modeling - partial least square) method. The findings show that service and characteristics of becak masin havea strong and positive effect on the use of temporal space and increasing city accessibility. Three services of becak masin that have a profound effect on changes in land use at several points in urban areas, negotiation costs for payment, able to carry goods and transportation are always available in public areas. Two characteristics of becak masin that have a profound effect on changes in the use of temporal space and increasing urban accessibility, namely, feeder transportation to reach conventional of public transportation and small transportation makes this transportation can operate in various classes of roads thereby creating new accessibility.

This study clarifies cooperation and compliance in non-equity alliances. Partial least squares structural equation modeling findings show how social interaction and risk-based reasoning are both facets of interorganizational decision making. In line with the notion that behaviors follow intentions, partners' risk-taking tendencies (i.e., intentions to cooperate) and compliance tendencies both explain the effort that partners devote to an alliance. Purpose - This study empirically explores the factors that influence consumers' readiness toward engagement in circular food consumption.Design/methodology/approach - A conceptual model based on the motivation-opportunity-ability (MOA) framework was developed. In addition to all the classical relationships in this theoretical framework, respondents' age and education were added to the model. An online survey was conducted, resulting in an overall sample of 411 Italian participants. Data were statistically analyzed by using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM).Findings - The results indicated that motivation, opportunity and ability had positive effects on consumers' readiness toward engagement in circular food consumption (CFC). Of all the constructs, intrinsic motivation had the most significant impact on consumers' readiness toward engagement in CFC. The results also showed that sociodemographic traits-particularly age and gender-significantly influenced consumer readiness toward engagement in CFC. Practical and policy implications are proposed based on the study findings. Originality/value - The study analyzes factors influencing consumers' readiness to engage in CFC. While great attention has been paid toward circular economy (CE) implementation in food consumption, empirical evidences on how to prompt the consumers' readiness toward CFC are still lacking. More specifically, the authors explore for the first time, sociopsychological factors affecting consumers' readiness to reduce, reuse and recycle technical components of food products, using the MOA theory as conceptual model.
