The present study utilizes the basic reproductive number 'R-0' to make sense of the Indian Institute of Technologies' (IITs) doctoral population growth. The analysis shows that the R-0 for seven IITs under study, and for the engineering disciplines in these IITs, has increased over time. The estimation shows that for the seven IITs, every faculty member, on average, graduates 12.81 PhD students during their entire career. For the engineering disciplines, this rate is 11.3 PhD graduates per faculty. This implies that in a steady state, only 7.8% of PhD graduates can secure faculty positions in IITs. This, further, shows that the remaining IIT PhD graduates need to find employment outside IIT academia. Moreover, engineering disciplines with a high R-0 show higher research productivity compared with those with a low R-0 that gives scope for the latter to make improvements in their future research activities. A novel large aperture electron bombardment charge coupled device (EBCCD) has been developed. The diameter of its photocathode is 10cm and it is the first EBCCD with such a large aperture. Its gain shows good linearity as a function of applied voltage up to -12 kV, where the gain is 2400. The spatial resolution was measured using ladder pattern charts. It is better than 2 line pairs/mm, which corresponds to 3.5 times the CCD pixel size. The spatial resolution was also measured with a copper foil pattern on a fluorescent screen irradiated with X-rays (14 and 18keV)and a 60 keV gamma-ray from an americium source. The result was consistent with the measurement using ladder pattern charts. The output signal as a function of input light intensity shows better linearity than that of image intensifier tubes (IIT) as expected. We could detect cosmic rays passing through a scintillating fiber block and a plastic scintillator as a demonstration for a practical use in particle physics experiments. This kind of large aperture EBCCD can, for example, be used as an image sensor for a detector with a large number of readout channels and is expected to be additionally applied to other physics experiments.

This paper analyzed how South Korea's intra-industry trade (IIT) with her major trading countries (i.e., China, the USA, and Japan (CUJ)) in the manufacturing sector changed over time for the period of 1994-2011. It was found that South Korea's IIT with China mainly increased through economies of scale (ES), the ratio of inward and outward foreign direct investment to total investment (FDI), the ratio of intermediate cost to total cost (II), and R&D intensity (RD). On the other hand, South Korea's IIT with the USA was found to mainly increase through ES, FDI, and RD. Finally, RD, FDI, and II variables are found to be the most important determinants for South Korea's IIT with Japan.

This study examines the use of collections and services at IIT Delhi Library. A well structured 190 questionnaires were distributed among IIT Delhi users during the academic session 2008 - 09, to find out the user of information resources is being provided by IIT library. The questionnaires were checked and out of 178 filled questionnaires returned, 170 (95.51%) were found fit for analysis and out of which 8 (4.49%) were considered unusable. The present study demonstrates and elaborates the various aspects of use of collections and services, purpose of visit to the library; adequacy of library hours, infrastructure facilities, use and collections of documents that is, internet information resources. The paper also identifies the levels of use of various services provided, access of online databases services, database search techniques, and users’ awareness about different types of library network. Highlights satisfactions with overall functions of the library. Suggestions have been given to make the collections and services more beneficial for the academic community of the mentioned Technical Institutes India as well as abroad.

The paper studies the trends in acquisition of e-resourcesvis-a-vis their print counterparts, identifies the e-resources being subscribedby Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) libraries at Kharagpur, Bombay,Madras, Delhi, Kanpur, Guwahati and Roorkee either individually or through aconsortium, and analyzes the usage of these resources during 2004-11. The study also compiles a union listof all e-resources accessible at IIT Libraries. Data were collected by personalvisits, interviews, and using a questionnaire. Web sites and annual reports ofthe Ministry of Human Resource Development, IITs and INDEST-AICTE Consortiumwere also scanned to supplement the above information. COUNTER compliant dataas provided by the publishers were used to study the usage. Data analysisrevealed that IIT libraries spend a significantly large proportion of theirbudgets to acquire e-resources. There is a clear shift in the collectiondevelopment policies of these libraries where e-resources have become a vitalpart of their core collections. E-resources in all IITs are being heavily used as the number of downloads haveincreased from 32,33,818 to 76,17,691 articles reflecting a growth of 135% overa period of 8 years.

While this is merely an eyesore to the average person, it poses a serious problem to marine vessels. Ships with heavy biofouling issues often face reduced sailing efficiencies. Furthermore, the presence of barnacles destroys protective surface coatings. therefore promoting corrosion. as well as reduced efficiency of underwater acoustic devices. While surface corrosion due to microorganisms has been an area of substantial study, corrosion due to macro-fouling organisms, such as barnacles is an area that is relatively underdeveloped.

This study evaluates the content features of select library websites of Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) in India and uses a mixed-method approach that combines both quantitative and qualitative analyses of IIT library websites evaluation with the help of a specially designed checklist. The various content features of the websites of twelve IIT libraries (IIT Kharagpur, IIT Bombay, IIT Madras, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Roorkee, IIT Ropar, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Gandhinagar, IIT Rajasthan, IIT Indore, and IIT BHU) are evaluated. A structured checklist was designed keeping in view of the stated objectives and available literature. The qualitative part of the checklist contains 11 features pertaining to homepage of the IIT libraries websites, which serve as a recording device for descriptive data. The quantitative part of checklist contains 90 dichotomous questions relating to content features. A quantitative five-point rating scale was implemented to provide a meaningful numerical rating for each individual feature of the IIT library websites and rank them based on the features. The study has revealed that the websites are lagging behind in exploiting the full potential of web/library 2.0 features. Findings show that many of the study IIT library websites in India are ranked above average mainly providing general information of the library and their services and resources. The highest scored study IIT library website is IIT Madras with 78.88 per cent (71/ of 90) and least scored study website is IIT- Gandhinagar with 33.33 per cent (30/90). The findings of the study will not only guide the studied libraries to improve their web-based services, particularly, Web2.0-based features, but also provide a model for newly established IIT libraries in India. These findings open the door for librarians of studied IIT libraries to explore the possibilities of communication, promotion, text responses, and catalogue access via mobile technology with the help of library websites.
