Bulgaria is a parliamentary republic with an established multiparty system. Following a period of protracted and deep political instability, in 2021-23, the two largest parties struck a power-sharing deal, which will provide short-term confidence in the political system. However, risks to the longevity of the government are high, and political polarisation will persist in the medium term.
