A sample size of 135 small farmers drawing 45 farmers from each of the thre... 展开 The present study to understand the adoption behaviour of small farmers in scientific dairy farming practices was conducted in Sonitpur district of Assam. A sample size of 135 small farmers drawing 45 farmers from each of the three selected farming systems (FS) using random sampling technique was selected for the study. The study shows that small farmers normally had low to medium levels of adoption of scientific dairy farming practices in selected farming systems i.e., 84.44 % in FS1 and 82.22 % inFS2 and FS3 respectively. Small farmers in general, partially adopted recommended practices and technological gaps were observed in adoption of complex practices such as breeding practices and dairy management practices like housing of animals, floor space, water, drainage facilities, ventilation etc. Adoption of scientific dairy management practices by small farmers needs to be gradually enhanced, on an incremental basis, by exposing them to training and extension activities on better husbandry, breeding practices, etc. The study further indicates that except age, most of the variables under study such as education, extension contact, annual income, operational land holding, innovation proneness and decision making ability of the respondents had positive and significant relationship with their extent of adoption of scientific dairy farming practices under the selected farming systems. These socio-economic and psychological variables which were substantially influencing the adoption of scientific dairy practices must be taken into consideration while formulating programmes and policies for sustainable dairy development in the state. 收起
