The old university town is marked by a high tourism density that is reflected by a ratio of 6.6 annual bednights per inhabitant, which brings Heidelberg into a top position among all German cities with a size of more than 100,000 inhabitants (Tab. I). According to official statistics almost one million bednights are registered per year by the local hotels and other professional accommoda-tion providers. Taking into account both, overnight visitors and day-trippers, Heidelberg is visited by roughly three or four million visitors per year. 收起
