Growth rates of buf... 展开 Data collected from 75 milk producing households in the Rohtak district of Haryana and from livestock censuses held in 1966, 1972, 1982 and 1988 were used to determine the milk production potential of the area. Growth rates of buffalo, local cow andcrossbred populations were, respectively, 3.07, 0.05 and 13.98% between 1966 and 1988. Improvements in health care and the use of AI and organized milk marketing facilities improved the milk yield of buffaloes, indigenous cows and crossbred cows by 8.8,49.2 and 100.2%, respectively. Estimates of milk production showed that the district could produce 12.26 lakh litres of milk per day with existing technology, increasing to 15.50 lakh litres by the year 2000. Through the use of new technology and the provision of an organised milk marketing facility, the district has the potential to increase its milk production to 17.48 lakh litres per day by 2000. 收起
