In field studies in Russia between 1989 and 1993 on heavy loamy chernozem soils, the effects of rational application of mineral fertilizers, pesticides against weeds and pests, liming of soil and sulfur under spring rape were determined. The most positive effect on yield of rape was shown by mineral fertilization and application of Decis 2.5% e.c. [deltamethrin] at 0.3 litre/ha against the rape flea beetle [Meligethes aeneus], particularly when they were used simultaneously. Liming increased rape yield only on medium acid soils. None of the other chemicals applied were effective in increasing yield.
