The changes of species diversity and changes in physico-chemical properties of soil under ecotone, <i>Tectona grandis</i> and <i>Shorea robusta</i> dominated natural forests, Jagdalpur Forest Division were studied. The number of ground flora species under ecotone zone, <i>Tectona grandis</i> and <i>Shorea robusta</i> dominated natural forest were 24 m2, 9 m2, and 15 m2 respectively. Regenaration of <i>Shorea robusta</i> was the dominant of three different type of forests. The distribution pattern of most of ground flora species were contagious specially in ecotone zone and Shorea robusta dominated forest but in <i>Tectona grandis</i> dominated forest the same was regular. The concentration of dominance was lower and index of diversity higher in ecotone zone (forest). The ground flora under ecotone has higher diversity index (1.247) followed by <i>Tectona grandis</i> dominated (0.924) and in Shorea robusta forest (0.916). The fungal population was significantly more in soils of ecotone as compared to <i>Tectona grandis</i> and <i>Shorea robusta</i> forests. Some microclimatic variations, micro flora distribution and changes of physico-chemical parameters of soils in ecotone zone may reflects the diversity and contagious nature of species distribution. The physico-chemical data reveal that the pH of the surface soil in teak forest was found to be neutral where as in sal forest the soil is acidic. However, the pH of the soil of ecotone zone was found between pH of teak and sal forests. Organic carbon percentage of the profile soil samples of ecotone and teak forest were 1.11 and 0.76%, but in sal forest organic carbon % was comparatively low (0.71%). The total exchangeable cations and CEC of the studied three site reveal that the ecotone and teak forest contains higher fertility status than sal forest of MP.
