Mechanistically, coalescence kinetics are influenced by factors including the hydrodynamics of thin film drainage,[1] steric stabilisation[2] and classic colloidal interactions described by Derjaguin–Landau–Verwey–Overbeek (DLVO) theory.[16, 17] To assess how these factors are in turn affected by interfacial cohesiveness, it has to date been necessary to alter surfactant chemistry[11, 18, 19] or examine mixed systems.[20–22] However, these approaches simultaneously change both DLVO factors and interfacial rheology.
