Data pertaining to the year 2001-02 ... 展开 This paper analyses the socioeconomics of goat production, the resource flows and constraints, and the role of goat keeping in the livelihood security of the poor in semi-arid regions of India. Data pertaining to the year 2001-02 were collected from 280 goat farmers in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. It is demonstrated that goat rearing is an economically viable rural enterprise. Goats are found to play an important role in the livelihood security of the rural resource-poor people. However, there are constraints that need to be overcome, such as seasonally related low levels of nutrition, mortality and morbidity losses, lack of good quality breeding stock, poor flock management, and poor marketing opportunities. 收起
