An on farm trial was conducted during kharif of 2007 and 2008 in five villages of Chatra district of Jharkhand to assess the suitable dose of nutrients for upland rice. The experiment was conducted in 20 replications with three technology options viz., TO1: Farmers practice i.e. cultivation of Brown Gora, a local rice variety+10 q/ha FYM, TO2: TO1+NPK at 25:12.5:6.0 kg/ha and TO3: TO1+NPK at 50:25:12 kg/ha (Recommended dose of fertilizers). Results revealed that highest grain yield (15.12 q/ha) was obtained from the technology option with recommended dose of fertilizers (TO3). It was 47.0 and 33.0% higher than the yield obtained under the technology options TO1 and TO2 respectively. When economics was taken into consideration it was found that the highest net return (Rs 4,976/ha) was recorded under technology option TO3, which was statistically at par with the net return (Rs 3,363/ha) received under technology option TO2.
