In addition, it is discussed how these AKHs control metabolic activities, such as... 展开 This overview summarises data on primary structures of adipokinetic hormones (AKHs) in one of the species-richest insect orders, viz. the Hemiptera. In addition, it is discussed how these AKHs control metabolic activities, such as swimming and flying.The case studies presented will be from the homopteran Hemiptera, a cicada (Platypleura capensis), and, mostly, from the heteropteran Hemiptera, a stink bug (Nezara viridula), a twig wilter (Holopterna alata) and a backswimmer (Notonecta glauca). Whereas there are two decapeptide AKH members present in the homopteran species, the heteropteran species of the case studies all contain only one octapeptide AKH. The homopteran AKHs (one of which is modified and its primary structure is still unknown) appearto regulate carbohydrate metabolism during flight, whereas the hemipteran AKHs provide lipids for flight and swimming activities. Besides the case studies, other research summarised on AKH action has mainly been conducted on reduviid bugs. 收起
