The effects of planting layout (flat bed or raised bed) and weed control treatments (oxyfluorfen at 0.300 kg a.i./ha with or without hand weeding, pendimethalin at 1.00 kg a.i./ha, and 75% of pendimethalin at 1.00 kg a.i./ha + hand weeding) on weed density and on groundnut yield were studied in Maharashtra, India, during 2004. The major weeds were Cyperus rotundus, Cynodon dactylon, Commelina benghalensis, Parthenium hysterophorus, Tridax procumbens and Euphorbia geniculata. Planting in raised beds recorded greater weed control efficiency (95.75%), and dry pod (12.08 quintal/ha), haulm (12.78 quintal/ha) and kernel (7.15 quintal/ha) yields. Among the weed control treatments, 75% of pendimethalin at 1.00 kg a.i./ha + hand weeding registered the greatest weed control efficiency (97.13%), and dry pod (12.95 quintal/ha), haulm (13.19 quintal/ha) and kernel (7.19 quintal/ha) yields. [1.0 quintal= 100.0 kg].
