In the center of the contro... 展开 For some time, the Journal of Noise Abatement (Zeitschrift fur Larmbekampfung) has published a debate among noise effect researchers. The occasion is the renewal of the German aircraft noise regulation. In the center of the controversy are the varying opinions about the role of noise effect research and the scientific vs. practical significance of the evaluation criteria. The present work points out some basic problems concerning the determination of noise limits, based upon experience in science, enforcement and the legal process in Switzerland. To resolve the present chaos of partly obsolete evaluation criteria, the execution of a representative socio-psychological aircraft noise study in Germany is suggested. This would allow a legal regulation of aircraft noise on the basis of the latest scientific findings and also contribute towards making the aircraft noise debate more factual and transparent. At the same time, it would contribute actively to European standardization efforts with regard to basic methodical questions in noise effect research. 收起
