Total time required to milk a buffalo ranged from 635.3+-18.8 s (Autumn-evening) to 790.0+-24.4 s (Summer-morning), which included 39.0+-8.0 to 67.0+-2.3 s for bringing buffaloes from the shed to the holding area; 29.1+-13.4 to 57.0+-3.1 s for washing a buffalo; 57.8+-1.3 to 98.0+-1.0 s for moving buffaloes from the holding area to the milking parlour; 26.2+-7.7 to 44.3+-9.6 s for chaining a buffalo in the milking parlour; 14.4+-0.7 to 20.4+-0.5 s for providing a concentrate mixture; 14.4+-0.2 to 16.4+-0.4 s for taking the milking pail from the milk room to the animal; 7.3+-0.2 to 11.0+-0.3 s spent between let-down and actual milking; 112.5+-1.6 to 131.1+-1.2 s let-down time; 243.5+-2.9 to 321.5+-4.0 s for actual milking; 15.0+-0.3 to 17.3+-0.2 s for weighing of milk; 6.0+-0.2 to 10.4+-0.5 s for releasing a buffalo; and 25.5+-1.0 to33.0+-1.5 s taken by a buffalo for returning to the shed. On the basis of these timings, the standard time required to milk a buffalo (having 3.9 to 4.1 kg milk in her udder) was computed, which ranged from 692.1 to 908.5 s. This led to the conclusion that 1 milker may be required for milking approximately 16 buffaloes yielding 8.0 to 8.5 kg milk/day. 收起
