The disposal method and treatment of waste tyre rubber pose major environmental problems in the new era. Therefore, rubber concrete (RC) can effectively solve this problem. This article reviews the performance of RC in six aspects, namely working performance, bulk density, water absorption, mechanical properties, durability performance and thermal properties. The addition of rubber particulates reduces the working performance of concrete and the bulk density of RC. The water absorption of RC is affected by the rubber content and particulate size. The addition of rubber particulates greatly reduces the static mechanical properties of RC. Rubber particulates play a significant role in improving the dynamic mechanical properties of RC, especially the crack resistance. The addition of rubber can improve the water resistance and impermeability of concrete, which is affected by the particulate size and amount of rubber. Compared with ordinary concrete, RC has better thermal insulation performance. Special treatment of rubber can optimise various properties of RC. Compared with ordinary concrete, RC has more advantages in application scenarios such as roads, bridges, and thermal insulation in buildings.
