The prevalence of subclinical mastitis (SCM) was determined in 225 buffaloes in 11 private dairy farms in Pune City, Maharashtra, India, [date not given] using the clinical mastitis test (CMT). It was shown that 39.56% of the animals were positive for the diseases, which increased with lactation stage and was highest during late lactation (56.92%). 158 quarters (17.71%) were affected, where the left forequarters were the most affected in animals in the 7th lactation. The rate of SCM increased with increasing milk production, and was also higher in small farms compared to large ones. SCM was 39.16, 36.00 and 66.67% in Murrah, Jafarabadi and Mehsana breeds, respectively.
