In passive micromixers, the shapes of the micromixer play an important role in the mixing of fluids. In this paper, mixing efficiency of fluids has been investigated and compared in straight, serpentine, and spiral type micromixers keeping the same axial length of each channel to compact the size of the microfluidic device. The numerical simulations have been performed for the following range of Reynolds number 0.1 <= Re <= 100 in each micromixer. The results reveal that the mixing efficiency of spiral micromixer is the best among all the considered micromixers. At Re = 100, spiral and serpentine micromixers provide 99.9% and 97.4% mixing efficiency. The pressure drop in spiral micromixer is more than that of serpentine and straight micromixers. Considering mixing efficiency and pressure drop as important parameters, mixing effectiveness is calculated to determine the efficient micromixer. For the intermediate range of Reynolds numbers, spiral micromixer is the best and at higher Reynolds number, serpentine micromixer provides almost the same mixing efficiency and at relatively lower pressure drop so, its mixing effectiveness becomes more than spiral micromixer. 收起
