Wit... 展开 Grape production increased and wine quality improved significantly over the last decade in Canada. After transition to free trading between the USA and Canada in 1989, Canadian viticulture moved to production of quality wines. With new funds obtained, grape producers renovated their vineyards replacing Vitis labrusca and its hybrids with V. vinifera. Information is presented on volumes of grape production (mainly in Ontario (80%) and British Columbia), followed by small vineyards developed during the last years in Quebec. The beginning is discussed of the Vintners Quality Alliance (Vqa), Denomination of Origin, launched in Ontario in 1988 and in British Columbia in 1990, and of Vqa Canada in 1995. Cold regions worldwide with grape production are outlined and environmental conditions in Canada are considered. Old hybrids and new cultivars of V. vinifera used in Canada are outlined. Information is included on the main insect pest Endopiza viteana and the main fungal pathogen Botrytis cinerea. Production of Icewine from Vidal, Riesling, Cabernet franc and Chardonnay grapes, domestic consumption, growth of enotourism and exports are also discussed. 收起
